B&H has $300 off latest Apple Macbook Pro 16" i9 2.3GHz, 16GB, 1TB, 5500M 4GB for $2,499 + FS . Best price I've seen lately for this configuration, it's same price as the i7 version with same specs.

Link [bhphotovideo.com]

Key specs:
  • 2.3 GHz Intel Core i9 8-Core
  • 16GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM
  • 1TB SSD
  • 16" 3072 x 1920 Retina Display
  • AMD Radeon Pro 5500M GPU (4GB GDDR6)

They charge tax to most states (just like most on-line retailers now) unless you apply for their Payboo credit card.

Updated:
Amazon price matched (Thanks @shogun23). Link [amazon.com]

Call Adorama as they may match this price and they don't charge tax.

RAM is soldered on these 16" MacBook Pros and can't be upgraded even by Apple.
Not limited to Apple. Even Dell is going that route nowadays.

To this day I still don't understand people that buy these
Yeah there are a lot of people in that camp. I think the mindset changes once you can afford these

I believe what the OP may be referring to regarding 32GB vs 16GB RAM is that each core needs sufficient RAM to run at full potential. Since i9 has 8 cores you effectively "limit" each core to 2GB at most, thus each core can potentially "run out" of memory and throttle down. I've never benchmark this so can't verify, you may need to do more research if that is a concern.

Of course a lot depends on your workflow, applications, etc...also keep in mind i9 configuration has the slightly faster 5500M discrete graphics, in case that is needed for your particular workflow. I think could be helpful for video intensive tasks vs. 5300M.

I have not received my new i9 yet but perhaps someone can share real world experience if they have i9 16GB config. Actually i would love to hear about experience related to thermal , fan noise, battery of the MBP 16 i9 16GB.
It really doesn't make sense to divide the available memory by the number of cores. That isn't how memory is allocated.

I can afford to buy many of these and I still wouldn't do it. MacOS is pretty much Linux for idiots and the hardware they sell is nothing special
"For idiots" can often be expressed as "does a lot for you".
MacOS is popular because it's a Unix OS without the extra time cost of learning about and dealing with Unix.

Let me go tell all the other devs here how we're all idiots.

Hey if you are into that sort of thing then good for you. I would rather use my computer without some big tech company watching everything I do and locking things down beyond practicality

That's a lot more reasonable than unilaterally saying an entire operating system is "for idiots".

You should look into either Brave or Firefox. You can live without Chrome
