Amazon has H&R Block Tax Software Deluxe + State 2019 + 4% Amazon Federal Refund Bonus (Digital Delivery or PC/Mac Disc) on sale for $22.49

Not as good as some of the recent deals from Newegg for $19.99 but this is a good way to use up those Digital Credits. You can go to [] to see if you have any to use!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Careful on what version you buy!!!
The below only applies to the CD/Download version. The Block Online packages of the same name have limited forms compared to the Cd version.

There is much confusion about versions as to what does what and I thought I'd post this to try to clear things up.

Block likes to upsell you on the versions and there are almost outright deceptive marketing, wording and charts that cause much confusion about what version does what. Deluxe or even Basic will do the vast majority of returns even quite complicated ones.

Many mistakenly believe based on the charts and wording that Block puts out that you need Premium for things such as Schedule A,C, D & E. Deluxe handles all those forms but if you go by a chart or version picker on Block's site you will be guided the higher version.

Here is the full list of supported forms for Deluxe CD/Download version
You will see it is a quite extensive list and it will handle the vast majority of returns of your average taxpayers.

1) If you have a credit card that gives you 5% back on Amazon (Prime Rewards Visa) then do not opt for the 4% bonus. You will also lose other benefits like warranty extension/purchase protection if you opt for the 4% Amazon bonus in the form of a gift card

2) You can use free tax filing services if you qualify. Search on SD there is a thread that talks about the requirements you need to meet for free e-file

3) The deluxe + state includes the state software. This allows you to prepare your state forms and even print them out but it does not include the e-file which is another $19.99. Alternatively, some states offer free e-file so you could print out your return and enter the numbers manually

Hope this helps!

Free for those that me the requirements:
Tax companies are known to lobby to make filing taxes a pain. Most people do not have particularly complex tax needs, and 70% of people in the US qualify for free tax preparation based on income. Below are some resources to avoid spending too much on your tax preparation. Feel free to copy/paste this info wherever relevant.

If you make less than $66,000 in Adjusted Gross Income you qualify for free tax preparation (looks like it's going to be $69,000 for the 2019 tax year).

The non-profit The United Way offers free tax preparation using H&R Block Deluxe. This allows you to file your Federal returns and create up to 3 state returns for free. The Deluxe version is a step up from H&R Block's most basic "free" offering. Check it out here:

Note: While you can produce your state return for free, you may not be able to e-file for free. If that is the case, you can certainly print and mail your return for the cost of postage. Many states also offer their own free e-file solutions. Here is some info on which states offer free e-filing:

Different H&R block versions for reference:

Forms supported by the Deluxe edition:

If for some reason you'd prefer not to use the United Way/H&R Block, the IRS has a list of free tax preparation websites here:

If you need more assistance the IRS makes volunteers available to assist people in doing their returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and they offer assistance to older adults through the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. Find a location near you here:

Many city and county office also have free tax preparation available to citizens at libraries and government offices throughout tax season. Check your local government website.

You need to pay for state e-file for both. $20 extra when you file.

In terms of which one do I prefer more? I like hr block. I had used turbo tax for years then decided I wanted to try other software. Hr block had an easier to follow (more help information) program in my opinion.

Last year I tried both TurboTax and H&R Block. The final number is the same. I have investment account and I take itemized deduction. Not self employed. No rental property.

I believe you can do that. One copy allows you to do 5 federal Efiles.

What's advantage of this over using free one
The free one doesn't work for certain people. In general, the free one works for those who have simple returns. As your return gets more complicated (e.g. self-employment income, schedule K-1 forms, etc.) the tax software gets more expensive. If the taxes become complicated enough, then you end up hiring someone to do it for you.

When you make more than what the H&R Block free offers. It is 69k AGI for H&R Block if I recall.

I'm guessing they have the Amazon Prime credit card which gives 5% on amazon purchases?
oh yeah, good point. Lucky for me I don't have an amazon card so 4% is better than 1%

You can even share the download with anybody. The e-file code can be used only for 5 free federal filings. Anything over that will be additional charges. Also, they charge you for state e-file from return #1.

Used prime day rewards (didn't know I even had) plus $13 in no rush credits. Can't get much slicker than that!
Now if only no rush credits would pay for e-file.

I get 5% cash back with the store card. But no rush credits apply. Couple years ago the bonus was 10%. Even last year the bonus was 5%

Isn't the 4% referring to on the fed refund portion which used to be 10% at one point and then was reduced to 5% and now 4%.

Am I missing something?
