Amazon has H&R Block Tax Software Deluxe + State 2019 + 4% Amazon Federal Refund Bonus (Digital Delivery or PC/Mac Disc) on sale for $22.49

https://www.amazon.com/Block-Soft...r=8-1&th=1

Not as good as some of the recent deals from Newegg for $19.99 but this is a good way to use up those Digital Credits. You can go to www.amazon.com/norushcredits [amazon.com] to see if you have any to use!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Careful on what version you buy!!!
The below only applies to the CD/Download version. The Block Online packages of the same name have limited forms compared to the Cd version.

There is much confusion about versions as to what does what and I thought I'd post this to try to clear things up.

Block likes to upsell you on the versions and there are almost outright deceptive marketing, wording and charts that cause much confusion about what version does what. Deluxe or even Basic will do the vast majority of returns even quite complicated ones.

Many mistakenly believe based on the charts and wording that Block puts out that you need Premium for things such as Schedule A,C, D & E. Deluxe handles all those forms but if you go by a chart or version picker on Block's site you will be guided the higher version.

Here is the full list of supported forms for Deluxe CD/Download version
You will see it is a quite extensive list and it will handle the vast majority of returns of your average taxpayers.

1) If you have a credit card that gives you 5% back on Amazon (Prime Rewards Visa) then do not opt for the 4% bonus. You will also lose other benefits like warranty extension/purchase protection if you opt for the 4% Amazon bonus in the form of a gift card

2) You can use free tax filing services if you qualify. Search on SD there is a thread that talks about the requirements you need to meet for free e-file

3) The deluxe + state includes the state software. This allows you to prepare your state forms and even print them out but it does not include the e-file which is another $19.99. Alternatively, some states offer free e-file so you could print out your return and enter the numbers manually

Hope this helps!

Free for those that me the requirements:
Tax companies are known to lobby to make filing taxes a pain. Most people do not have particularly complex tax needs, and 70% of people in the US qualify for free tax preparation based on income. Below are some resources to avoid spending too much on your tax preparation. Feel free to copy/paste this info wherever relevant.

If you make less than $66,000 in Adjusted Gross Income you qualify for free tax preparation (looks like it's going to be $69,000 for the 2019 tax year).

The non-profit The United Way offers free tax preparation using H&R Block Deluxe. This allows you to file your Federal returns and create up to 3 state returns for free. The Deluxe version is a step up from H&R Block's most basic "free" offering. Check it out here:
https://www.myfreetaxes.com

Note: While you can produce your state return for free, you may not be able to e-file for free. If that is the case, you can certainly print and mail your return for the cost of postage. Many states also offer their own free e-file solutions. Here is some info on which states offer free e-filing:

If for some reason you'd prefer not to use the United Way/H&R Block, the IRS has a list of free tax preparation websites here:

If you need more assistance the IRS makes volunteers available to assist people in doing their returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and they offer assistance to older adults through the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. Find a location near you here:

Many city and county office also have free tax preparation available to citizens at libraries and government offices throughout tax season. Check your local government website.

Based on past years, do you expect there will be a better price before April 15?
I did a quick search from some past purchases, I didn't realize this but I generally would have already purchased this but haven't yet pulled the trigger this year.

What's advantage of this over using free one
Your tax data. With the free filing, your tax data will be stored in the cloud and vulnerable to potential hackers. With desktop copy, your tax info will be stored locally in your computer.

Can this be used to file taxes this year? Or do I have to buy the 2020 version?

When people say 5 free e-files does that mean, one per year for 5 years? I bought something like this 2018 Black Friday and filed my 2018 taxes on it. Now I have to do 2019 so I should be able to use one of those e-files correct? And just pay for state? I had bought it off Newegg that was federal+state for Mac. Seemed to work great. Not sure if I need to buy again or am I missing something . Thanks.

Careful on what version you buy!!!
The below only applies to the CD/Download version. The Block Online packages of the same name have limited forms compared to the CD version.

There is much confusion about versions as to what does what and I thought I'd post this to try to clear things up.

Deluxe or even Basic will do the vast majority of returns even quite complicated ones. That includes self and rental income along with business expenses and depreciation. Stock sales are also covered.

Block like to muddy the waters and the charts and information you will see will make it appear that you need Premium or higher for things such as self employment or rental income when the opposite is true. Block likes to upsell you on the versions and there are almost outright deceptive marketing, wording and charts that cause much confusion about what version does what. Deluxe or even Basic will do the vast majority of returns even quite complicated ones. See this example of a chart and you can see quite clearly that it gives the impression that business and rental property are not possible in Deluxe.

Many mistakenly believe based on these charts and wording that you need Premium for things such as Schedule C, D & E. Deluxe handles all those forms but if you go by a chart or version picker on Block's site you will be guided the higher version.

Here is the full list of supported forms for Deluxe CD/Download version
You will see it is a quite extensive list and it will handle the vast majority of returns of your average taxpayers. If the forms are listed that you need Deluxe will do your return.

I did a quick search from some past purchases, I didn't realize this but I generally would have already purchased this but haven't yet pulled the trigger this year.

1/2/15 - $21.99
2/13/16 - $22.99 +10% refund bonus
12/18/16 - $21.99 +10% refund bonus
11/29/17 - $19.99 +5% refund bonus
11/23/18 - $18.00 +5% refund bonus
are you saying you are going to wait till it gets to 18 or less?

Why not do the deal at office depot, and price match with Amazon's price? Then it's 22.50 with a $10 GC

Anyone know if premium ever goes on sale?
Do you really need Premium? Is there some form or situation that requires Premium? Deluxe and even Basic do very complex returns and have just about every forma typical taxpayer needs. Only if you get into corporations, S corp and LLCs Premium is needed

Thanks.
It really means that you can file up to 5 person's tax return for free for that year. If you bought the 2018 version, that one is only good for 2018. For 2019, you will have to buy a new one (2019 version).

I'm honestly on the fence, I checked CCC and it looks like so far this is the lowest price. It may go lower but then it depends on when you want to do your taxes and how long you want to wait.

That's what I think as well. I think some members are misreading the text.

It's 4% on the TAX REFUND, not on the purchase price of the software. So if you have an Amazon CC, you'll get 5% back on the purchase, and 4% extra back on the tax refund if you choose Amazon GC.
Unfortunately, you only get 4% bonus on whatever portion of your refund you choose to be given as an Amazon gift card. So if you have a $100 refund and put all of that toward a $100 Amazon gift card, you will get a $4 Amazon gift card bonus.

Thanks! I had no rush shipping credits to cover all but a couple bucks so I was happy with this deal. Hopefully can get our taxes done earlier than usual this year.

I use the free efile for our federal and the kids' and just print out and mail our state returns.

I live and work in different states - buying an additional state cost me more than this last year. Anyone know if I can just buy two of these and use both state filings?

true, last time I waited too long things changed like being able to use prime credits or price went up or something that made me kick myself so I'm just buying now. Had enough credits to cover $20 of it so $2.50 out of pocket is fine for me.
