I would recommend waiting on purchasing this (unless money is not an issue). The reason is that even though this would certainly be compatible with the next gen XBox (series X), rumors suggest that next gen controllers might support some extra features - such rumble feedback at individual triggers.

I realize this is a minor feature, but assuming one would wish to keep a controller of this price for many years, might as well get one with the latest features available in that generation.

Of course, everyone's need and price sensitivity is different, so I don't mean to suggest it's not a good deal. Just that if it's not an urgent purchase for you, and if you are on the fence, might as well see what next gen brings. There will be a constant stream of spec/feature reveals during rest of the year. So you would know soon enough.

Buy it from Amazon at this price and then take it to any Microsoft Store within 45 days to purchase a 3 year protection plan for $20! Just make sure to have the receipt and keep the box it comes in.

I feel a lot of value is added with the 3 year protection plan.
Can you do the same buying from Costco?

Any idea yet if the Xbox Series X will use the same controller tech? Not sure whether to get this now or wait until the end of the year.

Agreed. I'm definitely hoping they'll do a series X bundle that includes the series 2 controller (perhaps with minor updates ie a v2.0) similarly to the older One X Elite bundle I bought that had a hybrid SSHD drive instead of the HDD and included the elite series 1 controller.

Not sure in total in stock but could also buy the open box ones at bestbuy for $144 and add a warranty through geek squad. That's what I did back in November. Mine has worked great and has many hours on it.

If you buy this make sure you buy a protection plan from somewhere for when your $200 controller breaks ins 2-3 years.
100% agree.

Not sure if Microsoft has cleared up their quality control problems, but I had to return the first one due to one of the main buttons constantly "sticking". It was a known issue back in November.

I ended up getting my second one from Costco, where I can always make use of their excellent return policy in case more problems crop up.
What do you do when you need a new one? Just return and rebuy or do they replace it for you in an even exchange?

How does the protection plan work at the Microsoft store on these? Can you just bring it in no questions asked like at bestbuy?

Amazing controller. I just wish the paddles stuck out a tiny bit more on the back but that's my only critique...
good news Smilie
the paddles form the series 1 elite controller stick out more and are compatible with series 2 (unlike the old series 1 thumbsticks, stupid M$ Mad )
this means you can grab them (or say a $5 or so replacement set from aliexpress ) and have paddles that you like only downside is they will be in silver rather than the space grey of the gen 2

Yes, Microsoft has announced that current gen Xbox controllers will work on the Series X.

The Series X controller seems to come with a "share" button...so I'm sure it'll be a little different...
