I wanted to send some movies to my parents and my in-laws, both of whom have Roku TVs with USB 2.0. The media players on those TVs work with MKV (H.264), MP4, MOV (H.264), & TS (H.264) media files. 64GB is the largest capacity flash drive that consistently works; unfortunately, they are underpowered for portable SSDs.

$7.99 is the cheapest ever for these backward-compatible flash drives according to camelcamelcamel. Write speed is up to 15 MB/s, and I get about 12 MB/s from my PC; the TVs read these drives without buffering on 1080p video files. If you luck out, like I did, Amazon Warehouse sells them for $6.49.

I rarely ever do it, but with Roku TV you can pause live TV using a USB drive.

had 32GB version. don't believe such economic usb drive with metal shell, very firm. The reading about 70-80MB/s, but writing less than 25MB/s, sometime less than 10MB/s, the speed is not stable on writing.

Overoll, not bad at the price.

At that write speed (15mbps) I would not be certain that the bitrate would be fast enough for hd content. I would feel better with at least 20-25 mbps write speed which is still usb 2.0 speeds, but seems to be what a lot of blu ray disc are running at for a bitrate.

Just a warning for people using broadcast tv:

I had a Sandisk flash plugged in and it would cause my tv signal to drop out. Full signal strength but hard cut outs. Took me a long time to figure out the USB key was causing it. Not saying this one will do the same but speculating maybe it's an issue with many USB keys and why this is marked as being okay for the tv... Or simply just that the size is small enough as someone else mentioned.

Overkill for Roku. Roku can only use 16GB and only operates at usb 2.0 speed. Any more of either doesn't help anything at all.

Is there a like 64gb limit for a roku? Usb 3.1 are the norms these days.. they are not fast enough? I dont get what makes this a Roku drive.. I think Samsung makes metal shielded d..rives if that is the key..
