Best Buy is offering $400 off the Pixel 4 and 4 XL for cost of $399 and $499 respectively for the 64 gb models when financed through Verizon. This discount is NOT bill credits and is referred to as a "down payment" on the finance agreement so you will only owe $399/$499 if you cancel service.

Some statements should not be spoken out loud. This is one of them.
That's why I typed it. I've got nothing against this phone but buying it with a locked bootloader is an error.

Most people would say paying $400 extra for the same phone but a unlocked bootloader is a significant mistake.

They're locked. Verizon unlocks them after something like 60 days.

I would love to get a 4XL, but the battery life is dismal according to reviews, what do you think?
TL;DR - Battery life is average, but may suffice based on your personal use.

Battery life is very subjective since it depends on the user's habits. Most reviewers will have poor/unacceptable battery life as they are somewhat heavy users.

If you regularly check social media or regularly text/call for work or something, then you will most likely need to charge at least once during the day.

If you are a light phone user, you should make it through the day without much worry. (Cue the, "why would you buy this phone and not even use it" folks.)

I would say I'm a casual/light user throughout the day at work (few texts, never call, no outgoing emails, rarely use camera, no media) and worst has been 15% when I plug in for bed. YMMV.

Is it worth waiting for the Pixel 4a or should I jump on this deal? Coming from a Pixel 2 here.
Wait for the 4a. The face unlock does need some work here.

I bought the 4 XL yesterday. It got me until 5pm before getting to a 50% charge then after plugging it in took about 30 minutes to fill back up. It's not as good as my iPhone 11 but it's way better than the Pixel 2 (smaller one) I had. The XL versions seem to be a little better with battery. I will also note, while the iPhone 11 battery lasts longer, it takes forever to charge with any of the standard chargers.

Where does it say it's not bill credits. I don't want to be stuck in a year if I want to upgrade.

The person asking about poor battery life with the XL has it mixed up with the response pixel 4. The XL battery life is average, the regular version has a smaller battery than most wanted or thought sufficient for the phone.

I came from a Pixel 2 and got the 4 XL. So far it's way better. Battery life is better. It feels and responds better. The haptic feedback feels better. The camera seems to work even better. While someone mentioned face unlock not being up to par, it has worked perfectly for me so far with unlocking the phone. It's not available in a lot of apps but I use LastPass and can just use the autofill for now.

Verizon hasn't had a unlocked bootloader in close to a decade so no it's not useful info.

Correct. It was confirmed during black friday that these are bootloader locked. It appears there is a workaround on XDA, but I wouldn't bank on it. Just wait for a deal on the unlocked model.
