Get over yourself. As a full fledge Trump supporter myself, I will not watch something just because some politician says it isn't patriotic. The movie is pretty good and you'd probably do yourself a service in watching it.
FYI, it really had nothing to do with the flag in the movie or not. It was in regard to Gosling's comments that it was not an American achievement, it was a world achievement. It was not a world achievement. It was an American achievement...

Gosling is Canadian so I can understand why he'd want to omit that.

The original title of the movie was "Adam."

Buzz Aldrin is the one who planted the American Flag so it doesn't make much sense for this moment to be in a movie about Neil Armstrong.

As for the overall movie, I would give it 2.5 out of 5. It's well made but kind of depressing.
Common sense for the win! We can't get out of our own jingoistic way sometimes.

Maybe Gosling is thinking about Armstrong's quote: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Great movie. Never realized Armstrong was so meek. A different time when so many test pilots were dying. Also never knew buzz aldrin was such a dyck.

This movie is not for those who are looking for a flag-waving movie about the space program. There are lots of other great space movies with that theme. At its core, it is a movie about an introvert who is dealing with long term grief after losing his child. Despite the deep pain from his loss, he was still able to achieve greatness.

Didn't think there were so many crybabies complaining about flags and their sensitive patriotism. It's a personal character study, I'll watch From the Earth to the Moon or one of the dozens of docs that have already covered that ground if I want a narrative about the larger space program.

A lot of your colleagues prefer that someone else tell them how to feel, though...

The is the one you should watch to see the real Neil. Has home movies of the family including some of the daughter they lost from Cancer. Narrated
by Harrison Ford. "Armstrong" Free on Amazon Prime.

I have Apollo 11 in UHD, from Vudu. I believe it's the US release, and am not sure what the difference would be.

That being said my kids and I love the movie. It's amazing to watch all of the power and skill that into making that thing go to the moon and back.

I would highly suggest having a good subwoofer / stereo and cranking it to 11. The lift-off scene is amazing.
I ordered Apollo 11 from Amazon UK today. Based on your advise I will definitely crank my SVS sub to 11 for the lift-off scene nod

I have First Man already. I was getting over being sick at the time I watched it, but felt it wasn't very good. Very long movie and drawn out. At the time, I thought it was my being sick that made me feel that way.

Why is that? A lot of people believe he did a great job, Armstrong, and astronauts in general are supposed to be very stoic. I feel indifferent, I think Ryan Gosling did a great job but the movie itself wasn't all that great for me, and I'm a sucker for space flicks.
^ This. Reflects my experience having a drink with an astronaut who, with great humility, told me which module of the ISS he bolted on.

Don't forget the Dramamine. I turned it off after about 20 minutes due to being nauseated. Also, it's very slow, which may be good or bad.

It was an achievement for all of humanity (and a warning to Russia). Canada and the United States collaborated on satellite programs. A Canadian company built the lunar lander's landing gear.

Saying that mankind setting foot on the moon was solely an American achievement is ridiculous and petty.
