Good deal if you can find one. None in my region. These ymmv laptops are usually a wasted trip chasing invisible inventory.

Looks like there is potentially 2 at a nearby Walmart for $179. Thinking of using it as a media server to play back content from a NAS. Thoughts on if it's worth it?

You can do this for a lot cheaper than $179.

I should also clarify that I wanted to use the laptop as a normal laptop when it's not being used to play movies 😁

buy then ask questions later. By the time you figure out what you want...it will be gone.

One store in Charlotte NC shows 3 available, but no luck. The managers are well aware of the laptop, but all said they don't have it :-( excellent deal for those who found it.

Why this deal is not do popular by now? Is this laptop having low config?
Can this be good laptop for high school programming like java python and upto 5 6 good programming softwares?
It's not a more popular deal because it's not very available. It's Walmart clearance, so it can be hard to find even if it's in stock.

The configuration is absolutely excellent at this price. Good enough storage with the Optane, capacious although slow. Good processor if a little older. DVD is kind of irrelevant nowadays. The screen resolution is rotten, but it's <$200 for Pete's sake, so can't complain. 4 GB is definitely too low but I'm sure it can be expanded cheaply. (Maybe check before buying.)

It's YMMV but it doesn't really have better competition at this price. A few bucks more and the cheaper Motile comes into range, with a better screen too. $300 gets the upper Motile, but that's almost 70% higher price.

Those are lighter and quicker, especially the Ryzen 5 + SSD + more memory. They're also more expensive.

EDIT: Answering your second question more closely - YMMV. For me, coding needs a good screen. I'm writing Python on a 1366 x 768 screen and I hate it. Processing power doesn't matter much at the high school level for Python etc. Faster storage and at least 8 GB would be preferable. But again - if your high school kid has a choice between their own laptop or nothing, this is a good deal.

Just checked the Walmart page for specs and shows that max supported RAM is 4 GB so does not look like it's user upgradeable. There is a store near me with 5-6 but not worth it for me to even check if max RAM is only 4.

Crucial and HP forum both claim upgrades are possible for HP 15-da0053. Video here [youtube.com] shows an open slot, so you'll just need another 4 GB. But the same video also shows it's a pain to reach, maybe add an SSD at the same time. You can replace the DVD drive with a drive bay + cheap SSD. At some point though it's just worth getting a better computer.

3-4 at my Walmart for $179 according to Brickseek. We'll see. Too bad it's not 1080p, but great price.

EDIT: No go.

One store near me says "Limited Stock". What are the chances it's there?
