there are three "camera working modes" that you can select (per camera).

optimal battery life - clips up to 20 seconds and the system adjusts the detection time period to reduce detecting the same object twice in a short period.

optimal surveillance - clips up to 60 seconds and the system attempts to record as much as possible

customized - you choose clip length (up to 120 secs) and retrigger interval (5-60 secs).
