Thanks for posting. I see on their site it says you need Premier if you have stocks/investments? Is this actually true? Could you really not include that information in a Deluxe+ filing, or is it just some goofy extra add-on that "helps" with it only comes with Premier?

Self-employed $38 and not $28

Waiting for reasonable SE price like last year.

Crazy that TaxAct seems more expensive than TurboTax these days. I'm wary of using something like Credit Karma (I'm sure all these services mine your data to some extent, but it seems worse with CK), but also miss the days when I could do TaxAct Premiere+State for like $15.

I don't have all my forms yet anyways so I guess I can wait. Used TaxAct now for several years, would like to keep doing so but I'm open to other options.

is $38 best offer for SE or to wait before 4/15 for a better deal?

Scott, how TT is cheaper? I just checked and it is $90 for SE

I just did a SD search for TT deals and seems like recent TT deals have been as low as $40 for federal+state, whereas TaxAct for me right now is about $60. H&R Block looks like $20 on Amazon currently to get the actual disc.

Seems like there really isn't that much difference between any of them at this point if you wait a few weeks for a new deal. TaxAct's software probably wasn't ever as good as TT, but it was always cheaper. Now that TA is about the same price, might as well go with TT.

I have used taxact for the past 8 years or so, it used to be a lot cheaper than turbotax. The past few years I have had some issues ( for example it has skipped topics after it times out and I log back in ) but I keep using it since its easier than switching, especially with a bunch of depreciation entries. But last year was the final straw - their program was not handling something right and the phone support was absolutely useless - I just got a message saying they are unable to take my call and it hung up, and it wasn't the last minute either, and their written response was useless too. Also, they charged me full price last year despite starting my return through one of these specials - I had saved a screenshot and they refunded me but it probably wasn't worth the hassle.

If you have a simple return I'd use a different free file option, and if you have a complex situation I wouldn't trust taxact.

Where does it say 50% off? I see full price for everything (SE is $74.95).
