Price dropped to $199

Display: 14" 1080p IPS (240 nits, 62% sRGB)
CPU: Ryzen 3 3200U (Passmark 4610, single thread 1634), Vega 3 integrated graphics
RAM: 4GB DDR4 2666 MHz (non-soldered, only 1 slot)
HD: 128GB SSD M.2 SATA + empty M.2 slot (first slot supports SATA, empty slot supports NVMe)
USB: 2x USB 3, 1x USB 2, 1x USB-C (USB-C does not support charging or video out)
Video out: HDMI (full size, can do 4k @ 60Hz)
Other: Ethernet port, audio combo jack, SD card reader
Wifi: 802.11ac (Intel AC 3168, 1x1)
Bluetooth: v4.2
Backlit keyboard: Yes (though apparently does not look good on silver model)
Camera: 720p front cam with IR
Construction: Magnesium aluminum
Battery: 47 Wh, ~7.5 hr battery life, 65W charger
OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit (not S)
Weight: 2.55 lbs
Warranty: 1 year limited

Selling points:
-1920 x 1080 IPS screen
-Extremely light weight for size, with competitors (eg LG Gram) being much more expensive
-Compact/narrow bezels - 14" screen on laptop that is the size of a 13"
-Quiet
-Metal construction (Aluminum magnesium alloy)
-Backlit keyboard (some people do report the silver model the backlit is not bright enough due to the silver background of the key. with the black model having the best backlit/key background color combination)
-pretty good trackpad (large size)
-Ethernet port, full size HDMI with 4k
-Windows 10 Home (don't need to convert from S mode, has zero bloatware so no need to reformat)
-Front IR camera supporting Windows Hello (login to Windows using facial recognition)
-Very low price for all of above
-Runs Ubuntu Linux [reddit.com] perfectly (no driver installs, command line edits, etc)

Detractions:
-1 slot of RAM - so no dual channel, resulting in ~25% graphics performance hit
-Comes with 4GB RAM. While sufficient/fast for most people (despite what forums will have you believe), power users may benefit from 8GB, an easy and cheap upgrade
-Not from a well known brand (it was put out by a partnership between Walmart and THX)
-Screen could be brighter outdoors (240 nits)
-USB-C does not support charging or video output
-Wifi is 1x1 but can be easily upgrade to AX200 2x2 wifi 6 for about $18 (well worth it)
-No 2.5" slot
-Trackpad a bit fidgety for precise movements
-Speakers are what you would expect for this class of laptop

8GB RAM for $30 (replaces the 4GB, so total after upgrade is 8GB not 12GB)

Does this have fan spin issues like the Ryzen 5 version?

I purchased the laptop during Christmas. So far I'm satisfied with it. Can't really complain about a 1080p laptop at this price. The only upgrade I did was the memory to 16GB. It might be overkill though. I mainly use it to connect to my computer at work, the occasional surfing and watching Plex. I also plan to install an nvme for the 2nd drive in the future. My Microsoft Bluetooth mouse works great too. The only minor complaint I have is that the backlit keyboard lights turn off after about ten seconds. If I can get at least two years out of this laptop, it will have been definitely worth it.

How does this compare to this one I bought for $199 in store a couple days ago? Particularly the AMD A9 processor?

Much better. The CPU is a lot better but more importantly the screen is a much better screen than that laptop you bought.

I'm actually returning this exact model tonight. Thought I would give a Windows machine another shot after using Chromebooks for the last couple years. Sadly it can't keep up with my Chromebook on basic browsing tasks like loading my eBay listings, and that's a deal breaker for me.
Not considering the easy ram upgrade?

I usually clean install windows every 1-1.5 years and remove all bloatware that I'm aware of/ disable cortana etc. I only use microsoft defender for antivirus. It's not terribly slow, but opening some complicated web pages (stuffed with video/ images) certainly takes a seconds before I can scroll smoothly without lags compared to my work computer (i5-8250u/ 8GB). I know I'm comparing an older laptop to a newer one, but just trying to understand what might contribute to the differences.
Something, else how do I get by on a much lesser processor and 4gb ram with @50 background tabs, Services-disable sysmain, ditch chrome for a variant like opera, turn on its built in adblock, look at the startup in task manager.

I haven't seen anything about that, thanks for pointing it out. I paid $270, so no matter what I'll return it and then maybe do a little more homework.

Real easy to upgrade to 8 or 16gb. YouTube it, takes less than 15 minutes and it's cheap. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on it and also upgrade to 256 ssd.

I have the R5 8gb ram version. Very light and feels well built. I swapped in a 16gb ram and it has been running like a champ. Browsing, watching YouTube videos, programming, and other light tasks.

the hardest part for me was to take out those 6 screws. I upgraded to 8Gb RAM and added another 128Gb ssd. cost me about $40 on ebay.

I've got one I was planning to return as well. I don't like lag when surfing and sometimes just having one tab open and scrolling through a webpage it lags. Ram may fix it but I don't really need this laptop anyway. I do like the screen and case though! Keyboard isn't bad. I do wish it charged with USBC given the "retail price" . for the current price, that could easily be overlooked.
