I loved the "New" series of Super Mario. Probably spent more hours on these games on the DS/Wii/WiiU than any other games. But I wish they'd make an actual new "New" for the Switch.

I'm a huge Mario fan and don't need the latest games. Should I buy a used 2ds, 3ds or pony up for switch?

I'm a very casual gamer, think GameCube and Wii era games mostly Mario / Donkey Kong classics. Budget is around $100 could go up to $200 not sure if I wanting modding or not, looking for best bang for buck that will satisfy that nostalgia itch. Thanks SDers.

If you just want to save the most $$$ as to have strict budget and are OK with the huge library of old games to choose from let alone the fact that DS,3DS games like this are cheap, and WANT to mod them by all mean get the 2DS. 2DS XL if you want bigger screen but close to $100 ish depends on the markets you're going for. 3DS, 3DSXL cannot be bought brand new at retailer.

You don't need to get the Switch if you're only and ONLY intended to play 2DS/3DS games even when you want to have it modded now.

I have the new 3DS and Switch. A league of it owns.

End of the day, it up to you...

If portability is not important than I would get a wii U. I'm a casual gamer dad who likes to have fun with my kids and the dollar to fun ratio with the wii u is really hard to beat.

I want a deal on the "new" 2ds. I have one of the original 3ds and it's falling apart. But I don't want to pay more than 80-90 bucks....

Portability would be nice but when I had an older Gameboy I played it 2 months then lost interest, the Gameboy is somewhere gathering dust along with my Palm V and Zip drive. Sounds like Wii U might be perfect for the fun/value/nostalgia factor.

If you don't mind buying pre-owned, Amazon Warehouse has the new version of the 3DS XL for $80 before tax (extra 20% off taken at checkout). The condition is acceptable, though in my experience, that is not a bad thing. That is still considerably cheaper than what you will find on eBay or GameStop for a similar model.

If you don't mind refurbished, Nintendo's eBay store has the new version of the 2DS for $49.99. Non XL.
