If you can't afford the new Netgear 12 streams then this will do just fine if you add multiple of them, 3 totals to rock the house. LOL

For those interested in future proofing their router investment, and of course, can budget it, Costco had the AX8 WiFi 6 router for double the price of AX4 here.

Twice the number of streams for twice the price. The math worked!😜

EDIT: I spoke too soon on this post. Looks like the deal expired! 🤨
something to think about. At $200 it might not worth it but at $150 then you got a deal. Why?

You'll get only 2 radios tx/rx at any given millisecond. But if you pair 2 of these you'll get 4 radios instead of course with slightly higher energy cost per hour. 🤔

I had the first nighthawk x4 and it's terrible. The older modes seem to be better

Does anyone know if it works with AT&T gigabit fiber internet? I currently use the router provided by them. It is very slow.

Should compare this a wifi6 Asus device to be fair, the ac68u is a 6 year old dual band ac device. I am happy with ac66u b1, in some ways Superior to ac68u.
I purchased a refurb AC86u last year from Amazon for $130 (upgraded from the 68u). Great router, flashed with the Merlin WRT firmware, very zippy, does pretty much everything you want it to.

AX isn't really fully baked at this point. If you go that route for the AX features you'll probably be buying another AX router in the not so distant feature.

Thanks for the comments all. Initially I thought "Wow AX3000 has to be so much better than my AC1900!" I guess I will just continue holding out for a deal on a good mesh setup.

I tested this router two weeks ago using an AX client (intel chipset). 5Ghz is horrible 35 feet away from router thru 2 walls. Ranges from 300mpbs (FIOS max limit) to 2mpbs.

Ax client using the latest intel drivers form December.

Same client on R7000 (ac router) is stable.

In summary this router doesn't offer anything new over an ac router with ac clients but gives you degraded performance when using ax client.

Similar result with the Costco soup up ax router.

Ax router not ready for prime time.

The antennas on this WiFi6 router aren't the best. If you replace the factory antennas, your AX clients will be much happier.

I got this router on Cyber Monday for $100. Looks like it's $130 RN. I haven't had a chance to set it up and curious if people thought I should keep it or return it?

No USB 3.0 port on this model. Don't get confused with the higher end model, looks exactly the same.MSRP $200==Model: RAX40
I bought rax40 used on amazon. There's still one listed for less than $80 after 20% off.

These are ~$70 in some stores. Was considering this router for the price, but decided that I'm hanging on to my r7000 like I did with my 54G. All the routers worth upgrading to are still fetching $200-300; gonna let the new gen stuff sort out before making the switch.
$70 where?

I wouldn't give $20 for any of the Netgear AX routers. They all have major firmware issues Netgear seems not to want to address. They are actually starting to buy some back. Look in the Netgear community forums and read about all the issues with them. Probably the worst router line Netgear ever released.

That router is terrible for the price.

You'll get 2 streams for 2.4band, and 2 radios each has 2 streams for 5band. Doesn't support 1024-QAM or OFDMA or WPA3 or Tx MU-MIMO. Return it unless you got it under $80.

Can you recommend a good router I should look out for?!? This is just for my parents house who don't really need it for much.
