Back when I flew a lot more I once reached a total of around 30k united / continental miles. Then I couldn't find anything useful to use them on and they all expired (counter to what I was told in the airline printed literature). I haven't bothered with airline miles of any kind since (I now live in a dl focus city) and I'm no worse off.

No smart person is going to carry a balance thus the rate doesn't matter.

Does being dragged out of your seat and bludgeoned a free perk with this card, or do you have to pay extra for it?

It really depends on you but I value these miles away more than the cash equivalent. even if you're not gonna fly this year you can still use it next year and 60 K is good enough for round-trip too many locations or one-way business class if you map it out right. Just an example 2 years ago I paid cash for two round-trip tickets to Italy and then upgraded to business class for two people one way for 70,000 miles total, totally worth it to fly to Europe on Lufthansa business class (a united partner)
i am going to bet Italy is allot cheaper now.

Yes but missing the point. Travel may be very different now for many locations as a result of corona. Under typical circumstances, if you plan traveling in business or first points are invaluable compared to a cashback equivalent.'

If you already have Global Entry or TSA, you can pay someone else's Global Entry application with your card and will still be refunded

I have this card. I applied as a necessary stopgap between SWA cards (use for 18 months, cancel, and reapply at the two year mark) and United is a nice card in that when you do book with United Miles, there are much more flight options open to you if you are a cardholder (in addition to the free baggage) I might keep it a while longer than I otherwise would have. I like the card.

I just got off the phone with Chase CS. They informed me that they extended the time to earn the bonus to 6 months from the date of opening your account.

Can we downgrade this to a non-annual fee card to avoid $95 membership fees before the 1st Anniversary?

You do understand that if you pay off your balance in full each month by the due date then you don't pay any interest with a credit card, right?...
