Unfortunately, the bigger factor is how many lens elements are inside.

Without coatings, a single lens will typically transmit about 96% of the light. If the lenses are arranged as two triplets (common to reduce chromatic aberration), that's 6 lens elements. That's (0.96)^6 = 78% overall light transmission. (I'm glossing over how much light is transmitted at a glass-glass interface to simplify this explanation. The actual transmission is a bit higher.)

A single coating on both sides of each lens ("fully coated") might increase transmission to 99%. Overall transmission from our two triplets is then (0.99)^6 = 94%.

Multi-coatings may increase transmission to 99.75%. Overall transmission is now (0.9975)^6 = 98.5%.

Now you might be thinking, there's not much difference between 94% and 98.5%. And you'd be right. Multi-coatings are generally more useful for reducing lens flare (which depends on the amount of reflected light, which is 6% vs 1.5% in this example, so 1/4 the flare brightness). However, consider what happens if you've got 12 lens elements instead of just 6.

Fully coated = (0.99)^12 = 88.6%
Multi-coated = (0.9975)^12 = 97%

Now we're starting to get to a bigger difference. This is actually pretty likely here since the eyepiece is a zoom, and zooms have a much more complex optical design using more lens elements. The big 70-200mm zoom lens on my DSLR has 23 lens elements in 19 groups for example.

So without knowing how many lens elements are in this scope, you're not going to be able to quantify the light loss based simply on the fact that the lenses are only fully coated instead of multi-coated.. That said, zooms are generally a bad idea on a scope you're going to use at extreme magnification like with astronomy. So I'd pass on it for astronomy based on that reason alone.

I have another brand one similar in price to this. It sucks. It just sucks.

I wanted one to look across the bay behind my house to look at fisherman to see if they are catching anything and it just sucks to focus/find/etc.

I think imo you really have to jump in price to find better products.

Great link, thanks. Wondering if the limited light gathering due to coating makes this less ideal as a cheap Astro spotting scope....
