Feedback regarding the new email format

2,257 4,199 January 28, 2020 at 07:27 AM
I noticed that SD recently changed the email format a few days ago, so now there is a giant picture of the item and then the text description of the item.

This may sound petty, (I go through many deal alert emails a day), is there any way we could get the picture of the item moved UNDER the text description?

My gripe is, sometimes the email title is cut off on the mobile browser, and you have to open the email to see the full text (i.e. price, store etc..). Now, I have to scroll down to see the text. I realize that I could just click on the picture to open the website etc.. but, it would be so much nicer to just have the text on top!

Again, this is a totally minor gripe, but hopefully more people agree and we can get the devs attention Smilie

Additionally, are the pictures really necessary? I do not have a data cap or anything, and am mostly on strong wifi, but (for example) when I visit my parents house in the boonies, normal emails take forever to load, I cannot imagine how much longer pictures will take. Can we choose a text only format?

Thanks and now I will turn this post over to the crowds , and see if my sentiment is shared or if I get downvoted to hell Smilie

Also - the thumbs up / thumbs down rating used to be included in the deal alert email notification, but now it's gone. I miss it, would like it back.

C'mon man. At least post this in the right forum. I won't down vote you but you seem smart enough to know this absolutely doesn't belong in hot deals. And talk about 1st world problems ..

Hi Smilie

I just wanted to let you know I moved your thread to the site issues and suggestion board so the people here that deal with this will be able to see your (and any other members) feedback.

I did try to clarify that in my OP, and accept full responsibility for my actions Smilie And yes, I realize it is petty, but I figure if they are making changes, they would like the feedback. But if others do not agree, I will let the thumbs dictate as such. It appears the mods have moved the posting to the correct spot as well, so we shall see what happens! Thank you for the reply!

No voting in this forum. The mods will digest comments and do what they like with them in site suggestions. I agree 100% as I want to see the title, and the vote count on my deal alert emails right up front (top).

I get a big picture of a dollar sign at the top of the emails when the OP doesn't have a picture attached. That really brings the issue into focus for me. Some pictures may be worth a thousand words, but not in my deal alerts. You had me interested from the alert match. Most of the time the pics will be what I expected. Put pics after the rest because they are good to have when available, but won't influence my decision as much as the details.

Many deals have multiple items offered. So is only the first pic getting emailed or all? The pic might make you delete the email without realizing another offering in the OP is something you want or need.

Repped you OP!

I also was hoping the alert would have been kept in the "hot deals" forum just for more viability. I get zero deal alert emails from these forums and (in looking at prior threads) it seems to be where discussion goes to die, as most posts only have a few comments in them.

My hope was , more people would agree with the gripe, and the devs would take notice and make the minor change.

I had a similar issue a while ago when they made a temp change that printed the "billions of dollars saved" in huge letters at the top and it pushed everything way down in the email. Luckily they reverted that change.

In reading through my OP, it does seem petty, esp w/ everything going on in the world, but maybe we can fix this one tiny thing and feel like we all won Smilie

I suggest you subscribe to this forum and select how often if at all you want emailed updates. Open the link for Issues and Suggestions. Click on Thread tools (over on the top right in full site classic view)>Subscribe to this forum.

Also, I have set up alerts with key-words PSA and HU for when those kinds of posts have it in the titles.

For PSAs and HU threads, I have as many others have suggested in this forum that they create a PSA/HU forum. They haven't. If they would, I would subscribe with instant email alerts. They are often more important than hot deals in my opinion.

PSAs and HUs currently get posted wherever, and when posted in HD, often get TDs and complaints, but the mods might leave them there if they catch momentum. Mostly they are moved to DT or Finance or whatever the mod moving it deems best suited.
Mods reading this: make us a PSA/HU forum please!

The new format sucks. Looks more like a slickdeals promotion. I liked the old lean format, Anyway to change the format preference?

Thank you for the response! i did not see a "classic view" toggle, but I did un-check the HTML box. Hopefully that does the trick!

Well, switching back to HTML seems to have worked, thanks! Please let us know (if possible) if they change back to the old format as I do like that better than this plain text version.

Feedback is more visible in the SIS forum; we don't go looking for feedback in Hot Deals or other areas Smilie
