Mint Mobile ran a Super Bowl ad last year. Instead of running an ad this year, they are taking out a NY Times ad instead annoucining they are giving away their 3 Month T&T/3GB plan (Normally $45) for free to new customers to get them to try the service. It says you have 45 days to activate. Runs on T-Mobile Network. You can sign up starting this Sunday at 6:15 p.m. to coincide with the Super Bowl kickoff. It says the offer ends at the final whistle of the game.

So ANY unlocked GSM phone will work?
Not so much. Voice will work, but like any other GSM service - different carriers have different LTE bands, so if you want data to work well you need to get a phone that has the right LTE bands for that carrier.

Device compatibility
Quick tip! Easily check your phone's compatibility with our network using the IMEI Status Check. No need to compare network frequencies or device lists!
https://www.t-mobile.com/resource...-own-phone

Frequencies that can provide LTE: Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 5 (850 MHz), Band 12 (700 MHz), Band 66 (Extension of band 4 on 1700/2100 MHz), Band 71 (600 MHz).

What are the requirements for the free 3-month plan?

One plan per household. Credit card required. You must activate within 45 days of purchase. 3 months of service start at the time of activation. No additional purchase is required. New activations only.

Already a Mint customer? Sorry this promo is for new customers only, however, it's the perfect time to get your family member or roommate to join the movemint.

Is this plan actually FREE or are there hidden fees?

No games here. This 3-month 3GB plan is 100% on us. There is just a $0.01 temporary payment verification to verify the credit card used is valid. And even that will be refunded within 5-7 business days.

When does this free offer start?
When does this offer end?

The offer ends when the final whistle in the big game blows. We're thinking that'll be around 7:15 pm PST.
What happens after my 3 free months?

When your 3 free months are up, you can choose to renew with a 3, 6, or 12-month plan and keep the wireless savings going.

Mint Tip: Get our best monthly price by renewing for 12 months.

Is the 3GB of 4G LTE data per month?

Yes, it's per month. With a 3-month, 3GB Mint plan, you'll get 3GB of 4G LTE data (with unlimited data at lower speeds) each month, for the 3 months.

Any unused data does not roll over, though. It resets at the end of your data cycle.
What if I need more than 3GB of data per month?
Can I use the free plan later?

Sure. You have up to 45 days from your plan's delivery date to activate your SIM card. If you're locked in with your current *expensive* carrier, you can buy today and activate when you're ready to switch. Buying today won't impact your current service.

Can I bring my own phone?
Can I keep my number?

Yes, you can keep your number when you join Mint. To transfer your current phone number, simply select the option 'Transfer My Number' during activation. Unfortunately, once a plan is activated, we can't transfer your number, so make sure you do it at activation.

We suggest prepping before activation as you'll need some information from your old carrier:

Your current account number. This can be found on your billing statement, or just hit them up to get it
The corresponding password, pass code or PIN code number.
The billing address associated with the account.

T&C of 3 Free Months Promo

Eligibility requirements apply. Please see eligibility requirements below prior to purchase. Bonus period comes in the form of stored value. 3mos/3GB and 6mos/3GB plans only. Taxes and fees apply. Payment for entire subscription period required during promotion window. Not combinable with other offers and not eligible for Ultra Starter Kits. Plans must be activated within 45 days of purchase. If data limits are exceeded, speeds are reduced to 128kbps until reset. Pricing, promotions, and terms & conditions are subject to change and may be modified or terminated at any time without notice. Compatible phone required. By activating/using Ultra's service, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by the full Plan Terms & Conditions.

Thanks. Do they send a reminder before a day or two when the SIM expires? I want to enable that free plan once my current plan (different carrier) ends, which is about 35 days from now. So just wondering. Thx

LOL at the people who think Mint had the time to individually code each and every SIM with a different expiry date. They were probably bulk-tagged to expire at 45 days from the Superbowl air date plus about 10 days grace period.

Their system tracks it automatically since 45 day exp date is standard for them -- they send you an email after its delivered (subject "Your Free Wireless Has Arrived")

Order email shows "Once you get your plan, you'll have 45 days to activate it" so its most likely 45 days from delivery email

Website FAQ shows from order date:

I'm currently locked in a contract with my current provider. Can I buy it now and activate it later?
Sure you can! You have up to 45 days from your plan purchase date to activate your SIM card. If you need more time then please contact our support team at support@mintmobile.com or call us at 800-683-7329.

Can't get a data connection. Was in chat almost two hours today trying to fix it. Told me they'll escalate it and to check back in 24 hrs. Those of you waiting to the last minute to activate might be setting yourselves up for a headache.

Is the CC & email used to sign up tied to the sim or can I give the sim to a friend?

I'd like to know this too. My Sprint free plan doesn't end until the end of April, so I'm not sure what I want to do with this.

It is quite possible to build an API to receive data from their shipping service partner.. you tag the sim serial with shipping tag generated and the tagged product travel can be pulled with API and the "Delivered on" field can be populated thus.. I work on similar projects.. ease of SOA
