YMMV - 50% off TurboTax Self-Employed or TurboTax Live Self-Employed for Etsy Sellers

I logged into my Etsy Shop Dashboard today and saw a notification in the Finances tab. There, I discovered a new link called "TurboTax for Etsy" (second image). This took me directly to a landing page (first image) for starting either TurboTax Self-Employed for $45 federal (+$40 state) or TurboTaxLive Self-Employed for $85 federal (+$50 state).

These are the in-browser online versions of TurboTax Home & Business (H&B is the CD/downloadable software standalone version). From what I understand, that is the only difference. Otherwise, Self-Employed and H&B perform all the same functions.

I tried to get a link to it, but the URL seems Etsy-user unique (I couldn't open mine in Incognito), and I could not find any advertising for this outside of my Etsy dashboard and the user-specific link. I also never received an email about it from Etsy. I have no idea if this is targeted to some Etsy sellers or available to all, so YMMV. Apologies for not being able to offer more than screenshots.

I thought self-employed tax filers would simply get the Home & Business edition. What am I missing?

They are effectively the same thing. Home & Business is the name of the CD/downloadable standalone program version, whereas Self-Employed is the name of the online in-browser version. Comparing the current base price of each (i.e., the present price on TurboTax's website without any promos), Self-Employed is already $29 cheaper than Home & Business ($90 vs $119). With this deal, Self-Employed comes to $74 cheaper than the current base price of Home & Business.

I've updated my OP to explain this distinction. Thank you for bringing it up.

Home & Business is only $65 on Amazon etc., so this is only a good deal if you don't need to file state taxes.

(Home & Business includes 1 free state, Self Employed makes you pay $40 extra)

Here's the link: https://www.etsy.com/turbotax

50% off discount still seems to apply. YAY! But they've jacked up the price to $120. BOO! I thought I was getting to my taxes early this year but apparently not quite early enough. Will have to put on my calendar to look for this again next year. Thanks OP!

It worked for me. Thank you for posting this.

I've used TurboTax for several years, but Intuit is a shady company. First, they lobby our elected leaders in congress to avoid simplifying tax preparation. It is in their business interest to keep taxes complicated. Second, they push you to pay for their service via your refund. Only at the end do they show on the receipt a $40 service fee for paying out of your refund. So always pay with your credit card to avoid that $40 service fee.

This is huge, saved me $100 after filing right now with Turbotax Self-employed Live, this link is a public discount link, (I don't even have a Etsy account), just log out of turbotax and log back in through https://www.etsy.com/turbotax the discount will be applied once you are checking out.

Just do them on the Illinois website. It's super straight forward, takes like 5-10 minutes. The IL software is a total ripoff.
