I just picked up a couple of Garden Treasures Bronze Tube Bird Feeder on clearance at Lowes. These are large bird feeders that have 2 chambers each of which hold 5lbs. So you can choose to put two different kinds of bird seed in the feeder or fill it all with one.

Regularly $31.98, on clearance for as low as $8.90 with more places having it for $11.xx or $14.xx.

"Although the feeder is entirely metal there is no disincentive for squirrels to empty it virtually at will. They don't need to gnaw holes or overcome any spring loading device - they can just grab on and gorge themselves from any of the access ports or from the bottom tray. One other advantage/disadvantage - it holds 10# of seed in one filling, meaning that it takes a rather sturdy support system AND can wreak havoc on your seed budget once a herd of squirrels discover its motherlode of treats. If you can overcome the weight and the squirrels, a 10# fill-up does reduce the number of refills needed by our feathered buddies."

My local lowes had all feeders and feed on clearance, too much to mention.

I have one and tried using it for about a year now. It's very tall, very open and has a very small cover. So any rain coming in anything other than vertically will end up soaking the seed, resulting in wasted money and moldy seed. Tried adding a larger DIY rain baffle and it just doesn't work. Looks great but poor function.

You can avoid squirrels from stuffing their fat butts from your feeders by inserting a mesh into the feeder. The kind used for window screens is fine. Birds can pick out the seeds but squirrels will have a rougher time although some will have difficulty so it will lower the range of species arriving to feed.

I heard that planting onions keeps squirrels away, but I recall my sister doing that and the squirrels ate the onions. The things are bloody obnoxius. Luckily a hawk moved into the neighborhood recently and has kept them at bay.

I agree with this review. I have 2 of them. I stopped using them after seeing how much bird seed I was using. It really is a squirrel feeder, not a bird feeder.

Great price! I own this one, in the summer or dead of winter (less rain) it's a great feeder. If you live in a rainy environment, you'll waist a lot of seed.

What's wrong with feeding squirrels?
