Looks like we're all in for a wild ride in 2020 due to the corona virus. As it spreads around the globe, im anticipating a massive drop in the market.

Is anyone else going to hold off buying? I usually invest the 1st of each month, every month...but im going to give in another week or two before I get back in. See if we can get me some discounts!

Also, I know timing the market isnt a good idea. But come on...there has to be some exceptions. This virus is only going to spread...not to mention, a cure isnt going to be available for a year. The market no like this pandemic!

There's always SOME reason the market is due for a dive. The corona virus is news, but keep it in context: more Americans have died from flu this year than have been infected by coronavirus in the whole world.

Worth following, sure, but will it destroy global markets? I'm not sure why it would.

By this time next year nobody will even remember what the big deal about the Corona virus was.

Or most of us will be dead and the stock market won't matter anymore.

Or more likely somewhere in between those two.

Locking in the return or loss because of an event is the definition of timing the market. I would not sell anything but will keep buying and investing because none of these event matters.

"Coronavirus" is just like "tariffs" once was. I listen to the local tv news every AM and they have a prepared segment from NBC (national) that talks about the markets. It *always* starts with "The markets look to be sharply higher/lower.............. cause TARIFFS". Like what the fark every other day it vacillates between bear/bull like everyone's got bipolar. "Tariffs" went on for some time but now I see it's "coronavirus". Like they take a poll of traders or something. Nonsense.

Remember SARS, MERS, Ebola, Zika, etc?

Yeah, this Coronavirus media hysteria will soon pass.

PS. If the Coronavirus becomes a plague, the stock market will be the last thing you'll worry about.

Yeah Zika was a huge threat to pregnant women.... for a few months, then the next "season" it disappeared. I recall it being all the rage when I happened to have to travel to Mexico City for work a couple times (MC is a very high elevation, much higher than the mosquito that carried zika could tolerate). Then the next year, nothing.

This past summer in CT we had a particularly bad EEE year, the hysteria got so bad that many towns were cancelling outdoor events beyond dusk (sports practices, games, etc). I call it hysteria because although it can be debilitating/deadly, it is very rare for it to get to that point. Other states deal with EEE on an annual basis.

Check out videos of Chinese being welded into their apartments, people dropping dead on streets, body bags piled up in the backs of vehicles, the largest quarantine in human history of 65+ million people, small villages erecting brick and mortar walls to self quarantine, standing room only chinese hospitals, and a very high rate of critical care hospitalization. It also is more likely to mutate as and become something even worse as it is completely alien to the human body.

We must all thank the Chinese Communist Party for derailing human civilization for an undetermined amount of time and killing what will likely tallied in the millions. Thanks China!

What videos? I havent seen any recent ones. My guess is the internet has been severed at the cities being quarantined. If the Chinese sponsored media says 1,000 people died...its more like 50,000 people. I really do think that people are underestimating this. And those that compare it to the flu...you aint see nothing yet.

Stop fearmongering
Even if China is under reporting the number of death, you can look at the cases outside China. So far, the death rate has not been as significant. If it is so deadly and infectious, why aren't there more deaths and infection cases outside China?
