3m one is retailing for 46$ on Amazon now
They 3m style came from hearing protection and then added headphones.
The active ones were headphones first formost. They add a mic to sample the sounds in the environment and try to make they music source sound the same even as the background noise changes.
You can at times find the 3m ones for $30ish if you wait a few months.
Get some decent earbuds and call it a day.
