I've owned the 6" version for about a year. Sound solid. Originally purchased to replace a soundbar. However, They now are utilized in my workout room. Problem I had was the inability to add a center channel. Stereo sound was annoying watching a movie if you didn't sit dead center. Seated off center by more than a foot or so and you'd only hear one speaker.

Already have a receiver, 5.1 w/ ok-ish sub. This set worthy for an upgrade? How's this pair compare to the Reference/ Reference Premier sets?

You can use any receiver with an analog or digital output as the source, but most people won't need to because its inputs cover most of the bases.

I have the bookshelf version. They're currently in my office, but before getting my 5.1 setup, they were my do-it-alls. I had my TV connected via optical, my turntable through the RCAs, and used the aux to stream music (Spotify, Pandora, podcasts, radio, etc.) via Alexa. And you also have Bluetooth.

In short, even though you can use them with most receivers, these are best for people who don't want or need a receiver.

$450 now. Will it go down more or it's time to buy? 😊

That is always the question isn't it? I passed on the R-26PF at $400 thinking it would go lower and they went OOS.

These are comparable to best buy tier reference speakers, and (allegedly) the amps are less than reliable for the klipsch name.
If you don't need the bluetooth/built in amp, reference premier would blow these out of the water, even something like the rp600m with a decent sub would be nice.
