Not the best price, if you live near a microcenter, but dropped another $5 from last week. Lowest on Amazon per the Camel.

Why would you personally hate AMD? Thanks to AMD, Intel was finally forced to sell i5s and i7s that were more than 4 cores, and had to drop their price as well. I feel like in the long run the 3600/3600x is a better investment than the 9600k. I think in the not to distant future the lack of HT is going to hurt the 9600K. Especially when the new consoles coming out are going to be 8 core 16 thread cpus. Look at how weak the 7700K is now for new games.

Why would this not be for gaming as a prrmary use? It is great for gaming and awesome for multitasking at a cheap price.

Of course, if you are talking at this price it is great for games. If you want max FPS, you should be getting 9700k or 9900k and 2080ti and not be in this thread. Also, if you are playing at 4k, then your GPU is the bottleneck so this CPU is probably getting same FPS as a 9700k.

B&H just synced the price, FYI for those who have their store card to save tax. And in that case you might want to consider Ryzen 5 3600X for $204, with better clock, better cooler and your choice of game between BL3 and The Outer World.

Great processor, but don't try to put it in a SFF case with low-profile cooler. It's a toasty little devil in that scenario. Don't do it.

What would you recommend for sff, I'm currently shooting for that.

Get a case that allows for an AIO liquid cooler, like the Louqe Ghost S1, Dan A4, or Ncase M1. All hard to find tho. I gave up and got an NZXT H200. It's about the biggest ITX case around, but it's great, supports any full size air cooler, and gives you a super clean build with minimum effort. Plus my rig is QUIET now, even with an RX 5700.

From the limited research I've done, it looks like at the $175 (+/- $25) price point, this Ryzen 5 is a better choice than any Intel cpu?

3600. As long as the minor price bump isn't too expensive for you. Power draw alone is around 30 watts less. Although you can probably find cheaper mobos for the 2700x

What are you using it for? Those two extra cores are useful. Get the 2700x for properly multi-threaded apps and content creation / video editing. 3600 for everything else.
