just a note to the few wondering, this is a very small trim router. It is not a full size one you would want for your main or first router if you are just getting stared in woodworking. It does not take 1/2" bits, it mostly excels at flush cutting laminate, maybe some intricate inlay work, smaller round over bits, etc.

Just hate to see someone buy this for "woodworking" and find out it doesn't do much of what they want. I have the cordless version and it is very nice and convenient. I just keep a round over bit in mine and that is all I use it for.

For Woodworkers hearing this is NOT a good starter router..

I started woodworking several years ago, now I've flipped a house, working on a second after professional results and have made countless furniture projects and even house signs.

At NO point did I ever feel I needed a huge router. In fact it would have made this much more difficult for me. I got the advice after countless popular YouTube woodworkers and redditors advised me/others to start with a palm router yet there are comments here saying otherwise, that you should start big. That is absolutely false.

BTW I've built several vanities, an entire bedset and I have a queue of people wanting me to build for them and/or help flip a room in their house. I'm very OCD when it comes to precision and doing things right so it's not like I'm throwing garbage furniture out, labeling it 'quality woodworking'. I use a router here and there, its not the same as a table saw for example but when I do use it - again it has more than enough power, I typically am only using a fraction of the power it can handle (DeWalts palm router which is virtually identical to this one power wise).

Most important thing is to take comments with a grain of salt and do your OWN research. Yes even this comment.. go do your own research to find whats best for you. Similar to how some people are okay buying an ultra cheap table saw by Rigid because people told them to while I'd strongly suggest buying a quality table saw like Bosch or DeWalt for woodworking.. many opinions out there.

This is a fantastic deal and again free handing a giant router would have been a nightmare for my learning curve with routing. Years later, after using many solid hardwoods - I still am perfectly happy with my little DeWalt router I bought a few years ago new from Amazon originally designed back in 2002!

Amazon's top sellers are palm routers btw, not the larger routers..

I'm only getting the $20 Save on Makita. And I clicked the coupon. Took it all the way up to Place Order.

Keep trying, I was caught in the same loop. Eventually I added two to the cart and the second one added the other coupon, then I changed the quantity to 1 at check out and both coupons stayed.

The base that is on the router in the picture is fixed, able to adjust the depth, clamp in place, and used for trim. The base next to it is the plunge base and can be swapped with the fixed base.

So it can be used for fix, trim and plunge?

Yep. Using the fixed base you would use a trim router bit which has the bearing on it. If my memory serves correct, the guide in the picture fits the plunge base which you can set to be fixed as well.

A trim router just refers to a smaller router that makes it easy to use for trim detailing. Typically around 1.25 HP or less and has only a 1/4" collet which this router has. This includes both the fixed and plunge style bases for, for trim you'd use the fixed base. This is a great little router, if I didn't have a cordless one I'd jump, the cordless ones are too bulky for actual trim work.
