I see some folks giggling at the $80+ Shun bread knife sale going on at Amazon...for, like, sane people, there's a pretty nice KitchenAid bread knife on sale for $16 on eBay or less at Kichenaid's site when you get their 10% off email code.
The professional series is way nicer than their triple rivet line- it comes in a box with form fitting foam and some sort of laminated resin handle. Not on par at all with what you'll see them sell in Target/Walmart/Kohls/etc.
Keep in mind if ordering on eBay, that KA has weirdly dual listed all their knives with the Pro and regular rivet lines...in the selection pull downs
-Black is the pro knife (and most are sold out)
-Onyx Black is the crappy triple riveted knife
KitchenAid's email support told me that their santoku on ebay would arrive as the pro knife if I ordered Onyx Black, yet when it arrived it was the crappy hard plastic sealed triple rivet version. Return was easy enough and hassle free, but that's not what I wanted. That said both the bread and boning knives that arrived look and work great.
