Editor's Notes & Price Research

Written by

  • Our research indicates that Yamaha 76-Key Portable Keyboard Bundle w/ Stand & Power Supply is $80 less (29.66% savings) than the next best price from a reputable merchant for a comparable Yamaha Keyboard Bundle priced at $270.
  • The touch-sensitive keyboard allows you to play with proper dynamic expression. As you press harder, the music gets louder, making the Yamaha Keyboard with 76 Keys similar to a 76-key piano, but one that takes up a fraction of the space.

I've was shopping for a keyboard for my daughter who is starting piano lessons and found good reviews on this Yamaha PSR-EW300. Average pricing I was seeing was $269 for just the board. I then saw this deal at Sam's Club for the board AND stand for $189.91 + tax. Free shipping.

you don't need an acoustic piano but having at least a digital with touch sensitive, weighted keys is important. this piano has touch sensitive but not weighted keys, so i would pass on this one if you are a beginner looking to learn how to play piano. casio px-160 is a good beginner digital piano, other major brands like yamaha have an equivalent.

I don't think acoustic is absolutely necessary for beginners .

There's a difference in timing and expressiveness (force input control) for an acoustic, but this area isn't as difficult to learn as sight reading (the dryer side) of piano.

You won't hit a performance cap of sorts until several years into it. Smilie

Silly question (plz don't downvote me to oblivion):

Is there trial/tip/trick to ordering from Sam's Club without a membership? I (somewhat obviously) don't have one but this is a good deal and worth asking. I don't know anyone with a membership that I can borrow...

I bought this keyboard a month or 2 ago for $150 + $50 or so for the membership. Went back last week and got a full refund of my membership no questions asked.

If you want it to be something she does for life, prioritize getting her an acoustic piano immediately.

This will do to start. Buy a Sams membership, load up on all the goodies you want, return the membership within 30 days.

I picked this up online black Friday sale at Sams's Club for $150.
Don't think you will find a better keyboard until you go well past double this price point. For me with 2 daughters starting piano lessons this was a price i could deal with and they love it.
