Was at the local Walmart looking for the tool clearances and stumbled upon this. Seemed like a good deal given all that is in the kit. Includes one year road side assistance.

As always, your milage may vary with these Walmart clearances. Brickseek says there is none in stock at the store I got this at and there were easily 10 on the shelf.

$5 seems about all this is worth. That being said, several stores in my area show it in stock at that price.

Agreed, I already had almost everything in the kit separately already. The one year roadside assistance with 24/7 towing may put it over the edge for some.

a) New car or CPO.
b) Insurance (but probably it never would be really free, insurance companies are much greedier here than in Europe). Mine offers to add roadside around 20 or 30 for 6 months.
c) Car shops like pepboys (this is actually the most close to "free", because if there is no other cheaper places for tires and installation, you pay the same price (or even less than at a stealership) but get roadside assitance. Example [pepboys.com].
d) I dunno if there is some US bank that offers roadside assistance for free (don't be fooled by "free" assistance, that has "one time fixed fee of only $66.66"), but I used to have free roadside assistance (with limits like only 2 times per type of incident) overseas from Mastercard.

Agreed, for anyone who's interested in this, when you buy it, first thing you should do is throw out the jumper cables, because they are crap. Get a decent pair to stuff in the kit and you'll be alright.
These days I don't even recommend jumper cables. Carry a lithium ion battery pack with a jump starter. Saved my ass many times. A lot lighter to haul around, doubles as a phone charger when you're out camping too.

I learned this the hard way, but the road side through insurance counts as a claim, while AAA does not. I was insurance shopping and they said I filed a $40 claim in 2018 and I said no, could it have been a jumpstart?

She stated yes. So if you have roadside through the insurance (I use Geico) it counts as a claim If you need a jump/gas/flat.

If you use AAA (or I guess this roadside service) they don't notify anyone.

The small claim did impact my rates, though I'm not sure how much.
