...but compared to the crappy inkjets I've had for years it's life-changing.
Yep, lasers are a breath of fresh air compared to crappy inkjets. It's great that they've come down in price from their original $1000+ pricepoints. We still have our original Panasonic laser and it was a huge upgrade from dot-matrix.

I've owned this unit a year and I absolutely love it. I've printed at minimum 9000 pages this far.
Why did you print so many?

Very interested in this printer to replace the one I had. My question is, how cheap is it to refill the toner? Does it have the IC chip that also needs to be replaced? I really hate the printers that uses toners that are hack proof. It seems all the toner chip works on a simple page count. So even if you constantly refill the toner, it will stop working once a page count is reached.

You don't want to screw around with the toner on these. You're saving literally $10 over the course of 24 months because that's how long the toner cartridge is going to last you. Why risk the inevitable damage that comes with the ccc (cheap chinese crap)? The printer isn't cheap in relation to the cartridges like garbage inkjets.

And the nice thing about Brother lasers is that you can set the machine to NOT stop when the toner gets low and literally keep printing until it literally has no toner left. To do this, you'll have to set the option and then take the cartridge out and shake it side to side to distribute the toner again once the pages are blank, and you'll then be able to print until this process yields nothing. The starter toner will even last a couple of thousand printing this way. I only put in a full cartridge after the first year in all our Brothers except the commercially used ones.

I'm confused. Are you saying one should buy the genuine toner or are you saying you can refill the toner and shake it to even out the ink? I'm sure there is a way to refill the toner but all the newer printers have chip that counts pages so the shaking and refilling won't do you any good. I'm asking if this printer does the page counting and stop working completely when the limit has been reached. Right now I'm paying $15 for toner refill and new IC chip for a different laser printer brand I'm trying to replace. Thanks in advance.

It is a no brainer if you log into the web interface that's been built-into every Brother multi-function since at least 2007. I have almost 20 Brother devices and only the inkjet doesn't have the web interface. You can easily set up anything you want (and even more--great for IT) without any bloat.

Not sure what you mean about the drums not lasting. Our 4 generation previous model to this one is still on the original drum and it's currently at almost 6000 pages.

One thing that is nice is that the drum and toner are separate so you can replace as needed. And don't skimp on the supplies. If you use genuine Brother stuff these things will last a very long time--we have 100k+ on two of our machines and the only one that had anything break had 'compatible' crap in it--never again. You can also get the longer life toner and set the toner saver settings and reduce the dpi--no one can tell 600dpi from 300dpi unless you know printing--and most people don't. You can easily exceed the rated page count of toners doing this.
Except that for much of he Brother lineup, this one included, there's simply no scan to email available even on the web interface. Go ahead and ask support they'll tell you the same thing. Since you think 6000 pages on a single drum is noteworthy I'm going to go ahead and assume that you dont really know what you're talking about.

I buy the cheap chinese crap tn 760 on amazon for 14 dollars each. they last far longer than my original starter toner but i do know the starter toners are bad

Just go with a ccc with good reviews and save a lot of money for the same performance

After several failed attempts ordering this (OOS), I finally succeeded last night around midnight. Received the UPS tracking number this morning for the printer, although the filler item has not yet shipped.
