By the way, if you wait for the Vizio 2020 series they are fixing the horrible scaling issue on all there sets plus other changes as well. Most likely to fight against TCL. Vizio in 2020 will probably kill most of the competition with a new advance series.

Also, I got my main (65") TV last year... I slightly need/want a second 55" TV, but I am hesitant to buy two TVs of the (roughly) same generation, as fast as these TVs are improving. I'm inclined to wait a year or so before getting my next TV.

With the dimming zones comes dimming DSE jail bars. The trade off for better blacks will give you worse panel unifornity.

You would think it would be the opposite. See Rtings.

Good luck on panel lottery.

Vizio is going OLED.....let the panel wars begin....

You cant be in price war by buying the product from the competitor. I dont expect to see Vizio OLEDs to be significantly cheaper than LG.

Cool... I have a 2018 Vizio PQ and the upscaling is pretty bad. A 4K blu-ray player really helps with DVD content, but my HD cable channels (for sports especially) don't look great.

If only that new upscaling algorithm could be provided to existing TVs via a software update..
Hook up a roku ultra and it will upscale for you. That means not using the Apps.

I bought a Samsung and the upscaling engine is even better than my plasma.

It is amazing how a OTA signal can look great on one set and blurry on another set. The real test is 480i signals where the Samsung will make it actually pretty good.

The Samsung uses 1 primary scaling engine plus extra scaling engine (film1 or film 2)

The 6 series by Samsung is often called a DULL tv. yes, its very dull. Better off with Vizio V series if you want to be cheap or TCL 4 series
Yes, I'd call this equivalent in quality to a TCL 4 series. Which is to say: Good quality, but not amazing. Ignore the Samsung name, because a TCL TV of the same size would probably be at least as good.

So if this were 55" used TCL TV for $225, would you buy it?

BTW, with this seller, "seller refurbished" should be considered the same as "used customer return".

Yeah, I have a Roku Ultra and prefer it over the built-in apps. HBO Go through the Roku looks way better than anything coming from the cable box.

That doesn't help live sports or other stuff I want to watch through my DVR. It's not awful, just not great. I know that's a weakness of the Vizio compared to Samsung.

But wait.. the Roku Ultra doesn't do Dolby Vision. I stream through my blu-ray player when I want that, and the blacks look deeper.

did you make your mind about buying from this seller? other than 90 days warranty, do we get anything else? I mean 90 days are frankly very less.
In case you can spend more

Hah, it said 3 left, then 1 left, now back to 3 left. Marketing gimmicks.

Thanks to Rtings on their reviews. I dont know what is wrong with Vizio engineers. how much would it cost to add a scaling engine. Even the cheap roku sticks can scale up better than the Vizio. Probably a 3 dollar chip at best

Most content is still 720p. Waiting for OTA to be 4k someday.

Q. What is your policy regarding dead pixels?
A. In technical terms, dead pixels are part of the annealing process when manufacturing the LCD panel that is used in TVs. There can be millions of individual pixels, and as such, it is not unusual for a small number of them to be defective. This is to be expected and does not merit a return. Our policy is that if over 1% of the pixels are defective, then we will accept a return. Returns must come in the original box, be shipped by FedEx or UPS air (not ground) and return shipping is the customer's responsibility.

So as long as you're not so anal that a fraction of a percent of dead pixels will bug you, you should be fine.

I m not going over 400. That's my hard limit.
But buying refurbished. Kind of scary.
Maybe I will buy something from Costco for extended warranty

It's a 50" and lower in the M-series line, but Costco has the M507 for $390 [costco.com]. I'm keeping my eye on that one and may order it if the price drops further.

In m series M8 is best with 90 local dining zones. M7 have just 16. I was reading reviews on rting, it's written it will be noticable even with subtitles. Lol

How are the smart functions on this set? Would it be worth waiting for a Roku TV?

I ended up paying the extra $25 or so and getting the Vizio M series. It has much better reviews on RTings

Keep in mind that review is for the M7 and this TV is the M6, though they seem very close. The real jump is up to the M8.

It looked like the only difference was that it just had less local dimming zones, but I dunno. I'm hoping it's still better than the samsung which doesn't have any local dimming.
