I have had great business with this company. Fast turnarounds great quality (remember most of the quality has to do with the image you provide!! You can't expect a great huge picture out of a trash photo). I had one issue with a metal print not being the right colors and they shipped me new a copy immediately and it was perfect. Highly recommend Canvas Champ for canvas and metal prints.
I'm confused why this is being rated unhelpful.

Exactly right. What "normal" poster here would write "Highly recommend Canvas Champ for canvas and metal prints", which sounds like it's straight out of a cheesy PR dept.

What is the lowest acceptable resolution for this size of canvas ? 1080p is OK?
1080 is not even in the same ballpark with the minimum resolution necessary.
1080/40= 27ppi.
Think of it this way: the printed dots would be on a spacing that is coarser than 1/32".

What should the minimum resolution be?
That question does not have a single right answer. Depends on from how far the picture will be viewed, what the subject matter is (a sunset landscape requires less of a resolution than the portrait of a baby or a picture of a delicate flower), the printing used, whether a successful combination of minor upsizing and denoising was used, etc.
A rough value would be 100ppi, although some sites/people report successfully printing from 72ppi.

Man you need a seriously hi-rez pic for this imo. I've been doing canvas prints through about 3 diff services and some from just my Pixel 3 and some from my A7mk2. I notice 16x20 is too much for my Pixel 3 pics at 12MP. I don't even trust my 24MP pics for a 30x40.

Image resolution may vary according to the clarity of the camera, Ideally, it should be 3-5 MB image, however, images taken using a cell phone are also good even though the size is 1,2 mb

If you are not sure, you are able to open the customer service chat and share the image you want to use, they will tell you if it will be good on a 30x40 canvas print.

You can also opt-in, during the order process, for a Proof request for a small fee.

Great answer, thank you. If you are unsure about your image, please open the customer service chat box on canvaschamp.com website and send them the image you want to use, they will let you know if it will be sharp on a 30x40 canvas print.

I'm wondering the same thing. Is it worth the extra $5?

File size is not a reliable indicator of resolution.
First of all, most everyone uses JPEG files. The file size for JPEGs depends not only on the resolution, but also on the degree of compression used, as well as on the nature of the picture itself.
If the picture has extensive areas of the same color and density the file size will be relatively small. Conversely, the file size will be relatively large for a picture with lots of small areas of varying density and color.

As for your A7 II, if you took the pictures at max resolution you should have 6000X4000.
Now that is a 1.5:1 aspect ratio. The ratio for a 40X30 print is 1.33. Presuming you do not go into asymmetric resizing (since the success of that depends on the subject matter) you will crop the picture to have about 5333X4000 pixels.
You will then have 5333/40=133ppi. For a large canvas print that should be quite sufficient, especially since it is unlikely to be viewed close up.

One more comment.
There is very rarely a good reason to shoot at anything less than max res.

I used coupon code "shipfree" which saved me $10 (free shipping on orders $20 and higher). For some reason the "shopcc29" code was not applying to my 30x40" bare canvas order with no options added...Total was $27.47 for the 30x40 shipped. Pretty amazing!
