MAKE SURE THEY INSTALL THE "TILT SWITCH." ITS DANGEROUS NOT TO HAVE IT.

EVERYONE Should OPEN THERE HOOD and MAKE SURE IT WON'T REMOTE START BEFORE THEY SIGN THE PAPERWORK AND LEAVE.

My car is 2008 CRV. I have a newbie question.
If I turn the engine on using this system, do I still need to insert the key in to drive?
Yes, of course.

This remote lock and unlock the doors or we need to carry original car remote as well ?
Yes, it will do the doors, trunk and remote start. On my remote a single unlock press will unlock the driver side door. Press it once more within a couple seconds and it will unlock the rest of the doors. I don't carry my original OEM fob.

The buttons also have additional features to program all sorts of cool functions by sending voltage triggers to relays. I can't remember the combination of button presses, but I think it's in the manual. I was going to set mine up to engage the high idle rpm in my truck, but just never did.

I don't think anyone can jump into a car and drive off when it is remote started. Unless you have some DIY ghetto system where you leave the key in it.

For this particular system installed in my '04 Silverado, If press the remote start button for more than two seconds, it will automatically lock the doors and then start the truck. Then I have to unlock the doors, get in, put the key in, turn it to the run position and THEN step on the brake pedal to transfer from remote start to normal mode.

If I push the brake pedal (like I want to shift into drive) without the key in the run position, the truck will shut off.

Anyway, the range on this thing is awesome; I normally start my truck from more than 1/4 mile away. It is always running and the seat heaters already warm when I get in. https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/smile.gif

Only problem was the Best Buy install. It was fine, until one day on the side of the road I was replacing the mangled serpentine belt and the truck decided to start. I guess I was leaning over the front grill and had the start button pressed in my pocket for more than two seconds. My bad for not disconnecting the battery first. Not sure how I still have an arm or fingers... Evidently they didn't install the tilt switch or any mechanism to not start if the hood was raised.
Ah see there's the difference and cause for concern: a key. My wife's Rav4 is push-button start. I think the feature where the car shuts off is on newer Toyota's with pushbutton rather than key.

Just got mine installed on my Scion tC 2012 last month.

Worth every penny so far.

Appointment scheduling was about 2 weeks out but I only had to wait about 1.5 hours for them to install it. Pretty much stayed at Best Buy and browsed around.

No problems at all so far. Range is insane. You can start your car that's all the way in the back of the parking lot of a Walmart, for example, from the front of the store outside. Probably even further. I've had a lot of luck with parking garages as well.

Installer said Battery lasts about 7-9 months with CONSTANT use. Didn't ask geek squad if they replaced batteries for free but the manual shows you how to change it if you want to do it yourself.

Does this also let you unlock the car just by being near it, or only remote start?

I don't see free install either
It didn't show free installation for me either but I did eventually get it to show.
You have to:
  1. Add the kit to your cart
  2. Go to your cart and under the kit, select "See all your available options".
  3. Confirmed your car make and model
  4. Then a screen allowing me to add the installation to my cart by making an appt.
  5. After that all the other harnesses and switch showed up with the installation.

Bestbuy has it again, the Compustar - 2-Way Remote Start System with free installation for $250.
One thing to note, at checkout, I was prompted to available "offers" where I was able to add the tilt switch and harness for $0.01 each.

This is a great kit! I bought this for my dad for Christmas. He can sit at his desk and start his Silverado several hundred feet away through several offices and concrete walls. Took BB a little over an hour to install.

I hope you took it back and made them install the TILT SWITCH that YOU PAID FOR.

Tell them they will be LIABLE for anyone getting hurt because THEY DIDN'T INSTALL IT. If they give you a hard time call CUSTOMER SERVICE and make a complaint.

It's very dangerous not to have the tilt switch.

NO CAR WITH A REMOTE STARTER SHOULD BE ABLE TO REMOTE START WITH THE HOOD OPENED UP!

This doesn't appear to include free installation. Geek squad install adds $150 bringing this to $400. Am I missing something?
Only certain stores offer installation
