I was looking for inexpensive classical guitar and found this higher end Lucero classical guitar for $160, 50% off at Musician's Friend, shipping is free.

This is classical version, the one with nylon strings, normally played without a pick. You get a lot of features typically not found in classical guitars:
- Truss rod for neck adjustment,
- Cutaway design for access to high frets,
- Electronic Fishman build-in tuner,
- Premium Fishman Clasica III preamp - guitar can be plugged into amp or computer.

It also comes with solid spruce top.

Lots of premium features, you typically pay a lot more than $160 for this selection of features.

FEATURES
Striped sapele back and sides
Solid spruce top
Multi-ply wood binding
3-ply rear marquetry strip
Custom rosette
Gold hardware
White Ivoroid Regal tuners
D™Addario ProArte strings
Comfort-cutaway
Fishman Clasica III preamp: 3-band EQ, Phase, Tuner

20 reviews at MF, most are 5 star (16 reviews), 2 four-star.

Just got back from my local guitar center cause I wanted to try this out in person and I know they price match MF. Anyway, besides not being impressed with the sound (natural, I didn't amplify it), the frets were all sticking out past the neck slightly, which resulted in a ton of small cuts to the outside of my index finger as I played. It wasn't painful or anything, just uncomfortable after several minutes. If you've ever tried to open a pop off bottle cap like it's a twist off, the cuts felt and looked kinda like that. One of the bad reviews online (can't remember if it was on GC or MF) mentioned this as well. I suppose I could've asked a clerk to pull several from the back for me in the hopes that I'd find one without this issue, but after being less than impressed with the sound, I didn't wanna waste my time. Just my .02

Essentially a pre-order (for me at least), won't ship until 3/15 but seems like a great deal I've been wanting a classical guitar for the collection for a while now. Gets good reviews online, people say the frets might need some work which may or may not be a deal breaker for some people but I can do that work myself so no big deal. Good find thanks!

It says 'Expected to Ship 02-22-2020' on the product page and 'Expected to ship by 02-21-2020' in my order confirmation.

It will ship within 1 week, which is not bad.

Almost every time I buy from MF it gives me future date, but they ship within couple of days.

Oh thanks man appreciate the correction, I only noticed the 3/15 date. Product page does indeed say 2/22. I should of said backorder instead of pre-order since that's what my status says. If it ships next week sweet, if not until next month, no big. Can't say I NEED it immediately. I apologize for any misinformation, I think it is a good deal either way.

For any that haven't used MF before, they're easy to work with and simple 45 day no cost returns. Recommend.

Hi, I don't know anything about guitar, but I was thinking of learning. Is it a good guitar for beginners? like Yamaha FG-800.

I had a different experience. They canceled my order, tried to upsell me, and then sent a barrage of marketing messages.

I have had similar experience. Not free returns, restocking fees, return shipping. I haven't bought from them for a long time so this may have changed.

Can anyone explain how an acoustic-electric differs from electric in terms of sound, setting up, what type of strings etc?

First and foremost this is an acoustic guitar, but with electronic pick-up added. You can play this guitar anywhere without plugging in and it will sound just like any other acoustic guitar. You can take it outside, by the campfire, etc.

But if you need to plug it into an amplifier - it will sound similar to electric guitar.

You essentially are getting 2 guitars - acoustic and electric. More versatile, more options. Keep in mind that pickup is not as good as in electric guitar, but it will do the job.

Your electric guitar needs to be played plugged-in and will require electric source and amp.

As for the strings - this guitar uses string made from nylon, while electric has steel strings. Nylon strings are easier to play and will not hurt your fingers.

I have ordered dozens of items from Musician's Friend over a twenty year period without one single issue ever. However, one time they did send me a duplicate order without charging me, but I didn't complain about the free guitar. 😁

This is a pretty good description, but one thing to note is that you wont be able to play this like a metal guitar. Electric acoustics typically can't handle heavy distortion without getting feedback. Just so somebody isn't disappointed when they think they can shred on this as well as play it like an acoustic.
