I got this exact set as a free gift with a cyber Monday purchase of a Drill/Impact combo about 6 years ago.

I have been an Industrial/Robotics engineer for 23 years. I have used every brand tool there is.

Dewalt tools...barring the useless allens...are wither superior or on par with the best I have ever used. They are my go to kit far above craftsman, cobalt, or Husky.

I prefer them in every way to my Snap On and Proto as well.

The wrenches are balanced, high quality and extremely comfortable to grip.

The ratchets are the same...but VERY HEAVY. They are very useful considering the gearing is micro adjustable yet still gives you confidence in the tool because of the heft of it.

This set has every practical socket you need for 99.9% of jobs below 1".

If I have to list a drawback I will say the Allen's are short and generic.

Also the case is EXTREMELY heavy and cumbersome.

I plan on buying a kit for my son today. This is a pro set for a dirt cheap price.

EDIT

I have the 192 piece kit. Everything else applies.

There are several DeWalt sets. Some say these are missing sockets and not a true mechanics set. More aimed at the homeowner. This set below has a better selection of sockets. Just know there are larger sets out there. Amazon Basics also has similar sets for even less. Avoid sets with a lot of small bits and cheap open end wrenches.

Don't know too much about their hand tools. I have a set of dewalt 1/2 inch deep impact sockets and I'm impressed by those.

Fairly decent. Similar quality to Gearwrench or Craftsman ultimate collection.

Agree this is a much better set for 40 more bucks... How can you call something a mechanics set without a 24mm? Jeeps wranglers use that socket all over the place. And you need 1/2"...

Because not all mechanics are auto mechanics.

I have another Dewalt set and it's been kicking for a years now. I don't really baby the ratchets either.

Looking at both they are similar. I give a slight edge to the Costco one as the smaller bits are better and more useful.

The amazonBasic 201 piece I think is a better buy vs the Amazon dewalt set...
