Smith has a lifetime warranty on their products. I was the same, never wore a helmet growing up. My daugther asked why I wasn't wearing one when she had to, so had to get one. Returns aren't free, but if you pay through Paypal, you can get return fees reimbursed (https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/returns).

I bought the Squad last year, I have to say that I love Smith's Chromapop lenses, but the Squad is a retro design that essentially has a 1 dimensional curve of the lens. Almost all new lens are a 3D curve design (spherical), think of a bubble vs a curved window. Some people dig that flat curve of the Squad, it looks retro and is kinda cool but to me, I couldn't do it.

I returned and got the Vice for a similar price and am much happier with them. The I/O's are legit but make sure the Medium is the right size for your face, and in that case I've seen them much cheaper at Sierra Trading Post if you have one by you.

I got the Camber helmet on sale at REI last fall for this same price. Fantastic helmet and well worth the $. I added some Chips 2.0 bluetooth earphones and they work great together.

I checked for any I/O MAG version Smiths and didn't see any, for what it's worth. The Mag version has the tiny magnets on the lense & makes its easier to change lenses out from Sun / cloudy.
- that being said, I have the Smith Optics I/O Medium ones and switching lenses out is pretty easy.

I've been looking for a new pair and really like the Smith I/O line, but I tried a pair of the I/O Mags and they fogged up on me all day. Returned them thinking maybe it was just a fluke, but I did some research to see it was a VERY common issue with the entire I/O lineup.

Deals this good are rare on higher end goggles, but I'm thinking there's a reason why. My cheapo goggles that I got for free 12 years ago outperformed the $260 pair.

edit: screw it, bought the I/O Photochromic Red Mirror, I'll take the chances at 50% off.

Sweet. Ordered helmet and goggle for in-store pick-up for my son. Just in time for the ski trip.

Got the photochromics on the last sale. My 3rd pair of I/Os
youll like them as long as its not a white out blizzard with dark shading.
And the only other negative is it does take the lens to transition with sun/shade changes but otherwise a great price for a high end goggle.

I've been skiing since I was a kid, but never wore a helmet. Looking at the one that comes to $40. Is this a good buy, I saw knockoffs on amazon for less. Do the Smith brand add anything the knockoffs don't?

Also I saw the site had free shipping, but couldn't find if it offered free returns. What if it doesn't fit? Do they offer returns?

Thanks, I've been wanting to upgrade to the Vantage with MIPS. Killer deal.

Too bad that the 4D Mag goggles aren't included! Great deals otherwise though.

Is this an authorized Smith retailer? Never owned Smith before but wanted to check in case of future warranty issues.

I don't know if this is still current, but back in 2013 I bought a Smith helmet from Amazon and e-mailed Customer Care to ask about Amazon being an authorized retailer. At the time they gave me this response:

Any of our products regardless of where they were purchased are covered under our manufacturer defect lifetime warranty, the only thing with purchasing from a non authorized dealer is being aware of their return policy because we will not be able to return/exchange products not purchased directly through Smith. Let me know if you have any other questions.
