I have to agree. Most people will buy TVs for a room with a decent amount of light at minimum and not everyone wants dark room settings. However, I do like to use Rtings and other sites' settings as a baseline where I'll set my TV to their settings then adjust to my environment. Or just check AVS forums for the settings of others that have the same set.

For this set, I paid a bit under $2k about 8 months ago. It's been fantastic for gaming and most movies and shows especially 4K. The dimming zones and blooming on a total black screen is mediocre at best. One example where you can see this upon TV start up, or when I turn on the PS4 where it's a black screen with a white graphic in the middle. Not very pretty and these seem to be the only times these issues will ever cross my mind. For most viewing, it's been great.

Rtings is for people who watch tv by themselves in their basement in the dark. Not real world testing at all.

I believe they might be the SM86 (last years model) this is SM90 model. Albeit slightly better.

I bought the 65" LG Nanocell Series 9, 65SM9000PUA, for $849 from a local place where we've been buying appliances for years so they cut me a decent price. I love this TV, especially once I dialed in the settings. 4k is great but I also think this tv really shines on upscaling regular TV as well. I was going to get the 8 series but decided I wanted the local dimming. We've been really happy with this one.
