I know you shouldn't use oily beans inside the machine (in the hopper/internal grinder) but is it ok to grind oily beans outside and use the pre-ground setting?

We have both - a Nepresso Creatista and a Gaggia Classic (and a twin baby- long story)- and love both of them - The nespresso is much easier and is always good - we started using the Peet's pods because they are sold at Costco so its much easier than trying to find a Nespresso shop. But I love the art of using my Gaggia and trying different coffees.
Same here. I have a Nespresso and a super automatic. Was using 2-3 nespresso pods/day, costing me about $600/year and creating a ton of waste. Got a super automatic and now I go back and forth between the 2 depending on the deal I can get on pods. Stocked up on Pete's pods when they were cheap, now I'm all out and back to the super auto.

I love the Nespresso, but it's really expensive over time compared to the super auto.

I was interested until I saw the demo of this unit on Youtube. After which, I think this unit has many design flaws.
1. To make a cappucino, you have to push the cup over the 'cappucionatore' and then hit the steamer button. Which means, this is not one touch. It is if you expect a one-touch , which is like most superautos.
2. The cleansing, maintenance of this machine is from the side panel. Which means, you have to leave valuable counter space on the right open and available. Its also hard to get to, compared to a unit that allows you to service/maintain it from the front.

Its a great price tho.. can;t beat that price for sure, but its not a super auto that is easy and convinient.

I have this and love it. It is super easy to use and makes great espresso. I have not kept up with the price since I bought one so no idea how this compares. But taste and ease of use are great.

Nespresso is 50 cents a pod. This is much cheaper over the long run.
20 cents a pod for Jacob coffee from Europe (top grade). I stock up and my kid stocks up when he comes back.

We are being ripped off for pods in America.

The coffee I had in italy is just as good as this coffee with my Insignia and Milk foamer for 60 bucks at target. Incredible crema. I was shocked and got rid of my old manual machine which was messy.

I have had my intellia model for a few years now, and occasionally I use oily Starbucks beens and I have never had any issues. Now I just mix oily starbucks with dry lavazza and it makes great shots.

Is there anywhere in the US to get them at that price?

Interested in selling the Italia for cheap? I'm interested in trying out a super automatic, but not sure if I'm ready to drop the money on a brand new unit.

Yeah, former BES870 owner here, now have a Saeco Exprelia as of a month ago. I liked the ability to fine-tune with the Breville, but sometimes that was my downfall because I wasted a lot of time and beans trying to get it right. One button on the Exprelia and it kicked out a perfect shot, rich and sweet, beautifully extracted, something I've seldom tasted in my own kitchen before. Big fan of the one-touch superauto. What a marvel it is.

+1 on ALL tips above. Medium roast, non-oily beans, filtered water, and one more thing: DO YOUR MAINTENANCE and do it on schedule and when otherwise required. If you don't have the will or the time to do the proper machine maintenance, a superautomatic isn't for you. Best wishes.
Great post! Is maintenance difficult? I don't mind putting in the time but I am definitely not mechanically inclined. Does maintenance require buying special tools or chemicals/ cleaners? How often does this need to be maintained?

If you want a super automatic that will froth milk automatically at the same time, it will cost you significantly more. They will cost well above $1000. Not only will you need a dual boiler, you will also need an espresso machine with a built in refrigerated milk container.

I'll sell my Saeco Odea Giro Plus - i got it from Seattle Coffee Gear - it works Smilie I dont even use the frother because i have a delonghi frother.

Actually have 2 too many coffee machines.. Have a 10 year old fully automatic Deloonghi that I probably paid $1500 for when it first came out... Lol

Also for those of you comparing a super automatic to Nespresso, they are both great but serve different purpose.

Nespresso's convenience cannot be beat but the pods, no matter how good of a deal you get on them, will definitely cost more over the long run. Let's not even talk about all of the waste and yes, I know about their free recycle program but still.

Super automatic espresso machines, such as this one, will always pull a better shot. There are numerous reviews and YouTube videos comparing the espresso shots. Nespresso shots will always have "fake" crema.
