What's the catch? I'm assuming that the 8 gb memory can be completely scrapped and you can slot in 2 8GBs sticks instead. I wonder if it's in dual channel to begin with though...may not need to be an immediate upgrade.

I googled it and the 144hz screen is supposedly 99%srgb which would put it near the panels used in competitors, a refreshing change for a low-mid range Dell.

Other than the diminutive and possibly slightly gimped RAM configuration (if not dual channel), I can see this as a viable alternative if you want a big brand name instead of the EVOO models that have been on sale with similar components for a very competitive $800. The only thing inferior in those (besides some truly crap speakers) is the m.2 SSD of the same size instead of an NVME in this Dell.

The EVOOs do a have a full sized 1660ti and possibly better cooling though, so if you're a heavy gamer, those are probably hands-down the better choice.

Still, worth considering at least. It's new (vs recent refurb deals like the Helios 300).

Good find!

It's up to you if the extra hundred is worth the newer processor and 144hz screen. Since I plan on doing some gaming, it's a no brainer for me.

The screen is not 99% , it's 93%, but that's close enough. nod

It's SUPER worth it. screen swap is a PITA, and it's not cheap $30 special cable from shady alixpress and $100 screen.

This chassis heats up like a mofo though. Liquid metal is highly recommended, or you'll be pushing 90+ pretty much all the time for things like overwatch.

There are no straight up downsides to the G3.

There are quirks though like all machines. The SSD they use is nvme, it's a sloow model, Not really a big deal though.

I'm not a fan of the heat management and the way it's dissipated.

Basically, with this chassis, without liquid metal, you're pushing 90+ almost all the time (gaming).

With undervolt it gets down to 80s, but in the summer it's 85-87.. without UV, it's 100 pegged.

The other issue is the way it vents, it pushes air right up against the bottom of the screen bezel. The bezel gets BURNING HOT, overtime this could accelerate the LED wear in the screen, causing it to dim.

Then finally, that ethernet flap.. this thing's gonna break off if you keep using it. not a huge problem, you can use adapters.

Overall, I think waiting for Ryzen models at the end of the year is a good idea.
