Roku is limited unless you jailbreak and amazon is inferior. The only other choice is the rather expensive nvidia shield. Ive never had the problems your talking about tbh

If you have an Apple TV 4K, is it worth grabbing one of these as well for third party app installs or any other creative uses?

Perhaps you could hack it into working as a Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box

Great price - I almost bought one yesterday for $50. I have no experience with the product, but I'm hoping it will provide an easy Chromecast Ultra experience with added functionality. Heck, might even try GeForce Now on this thing.

Get a Roku or an Amazon device - know the devil you are dealing with.

This box has gotten really buggy since the last update a couple months ago. I may get rid of mine soon.

I have 2 of these and they do have random issues where they freeze or are slow. One of them, the power supple went bad and doesn't power the unit anymore, but it does heat up the device a ton.

They also show up as the device that has the most amount of blocked ads on my network adblocker (pi-hole)

But for $30 they do play a lot of stuff. I might try a raspberry pi next time though, a little more $ but might be worth it.
