I've done this build, and there's no comparison for airborne shop and studio dust. Even though I also built a tight circle around the fan blades, and taped all seams to prevent air from pulling at the sides, the box fan basically dragged nothing of significance through the air filter. It always pulls from the path of least resistance, which you can only get with a full enclosure and a proper fan assembly.

By contrast, the smaller Wen and the larger JET that matches this one for spec, are in two of the shops I frequent, and they DO work.

You could design around the box fan, and build a much larger box with pleated filters on all sides, but it quickly eclipses this WEN unit in terms of time spent and materials cost while not having the functionality of this unit out of the box. Not to mention, it would probably somehow manage to be even uglier.

Good question, user speed_demon.

Farts propel bacteria-laden skin cells from around the anus. As long as they're clothed farts (not naked farts), the bacteria will get filtered.

Of the gases that comprise a fart — nitrogen, oxygen, methane, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide — volatile methyl sulfides are responsible for the odor, and to a lesser degree, hydrogen sulfide gas (H,S) and methanethiol. All are byproducts of gut bacteria and are recognized by the nose as volatile organic compounds. H2S is also a byproduct of wood breaking down into pulp. H2S is heavier than air, so just let your farts settle in low spots. I'm not sure how many micrometers these gas molecules measure, so consider digging a hole and placing a fart accumulation bucket in the center of the workshop. The permissible exposure limit of hydrosulphuric acid is 10 ppm. Anything over 500 ppm will cause immediate unconsciousness and a very rapid death. Be safe.

I wanted one of these up until I saw the YouTube video comparing this to a boxfan with an airfilter attached.

I snagged this last time it was posted. One of the hook mounts was a little wider than the others, so I hung it from my ceiling with the mounting brackets.

Aside from that, it's a beast. Remote is simple, relatively quiet on lower speeds, and does it's job well.

People have posted about the smaller versions being cheaper, but for the price, I'm part of the school that wants a stronger motor not having to run full throttle.

Love this. Thanks for posting. Hope others snag this.

Hmm, this industrial model with RF remote is $100 cheaper than the industrial model with IR remote. That sounds remotely strange..?

cfm of box fan with filter vs. this thing?

Box filter has more CFM, but that's without a filter.

If I want to clean the air in my house from pet hair, is this product something I should consider for its price?

It's too industrial looking and needs to be hung from the ceiling, so not optimal for living space. Consider a normal air purifier like Coway or Winix
