Wish it was on Oahu, as I am going to be there in a couple weeks, but I actually like Kona better. Looks like a decent deal but the boat does hold a lot of people so I its not like one of the smaller boats as far as experience. One thing about fishing in Hawaii is you usually don't get to keep all your catch. For the most part they will give you a reasonable amount for a few meals or you can buy it off them. I have no idea how this boat operates.

Yelp Review:

Tripadvisor:

Looks like this is normally $119.00 so it's a $20 discount.

Sounds like they spend some time making bait then spend the rest of the time trolling where you're rotating turns (each angler is "up for bat" to fight the fish for every 30 minutes of time, for example). This type of fishing isn't for everyone and can be pretty boring. But when anyone gets a fish on, it's exciting (it can be too chaotic for others). One fish (seems they are targeting marlin) is a good day, and any more is pretty awesome. Depending on the size of the fish and the other anglers, they may *share* the rod/reel and rotate between people so every has a chance to fight the fish.

Please factor in tips for the crew (anywhere from 15-20% is customary, similar to restaurants but there are people who will tip less or more.) Really it's up to you but please leave a tip for the crew particularly if they were helpful in any way.

Looks like it's a 6-pack, so not that many other anglers (my reference though is fishing sport 50'+ boats in SoCal which hold anywhere from 30+ people in most cases lol). From what I'm reading, they primarily troll. Regarding, keeping your catch one of the Yelp reviews states:
"They explained how the system works. The restaurant will cut up in fillet for up to 10lb for us to take home. We are here for a week staying at a condominium, we took 10lb home. The rest, Tom and Andy gets to sell to the restaurant and becomes a part of their commission."

So you basically pay $100 to work a 4h shift on a commercial fishing boat?

Dirt cheap flights from the west coast to HI right now. $250ish RT from PDX to OGG.

I'm pretty sure they're not making you setup/re-rig all their gear, clean fish, scrub the deck and rinse down the boat. I guess the other way to look at it is that you're paying $100 for a 4 hour boat ride where you may or may not catch fish.

Bringing back 10lbs of the catch is reasonable too. Esp if you don't live there. it would likely be cost-prohibitive to have your fish processed, frozen and then shipped back to the states.
