Mine over heated to the point it died but Tp-Link has seen made great changes in the newer models. This is a really old router but it works well, I would recommend for at home work and regular users like elderly etc. This will not do well on heavy loads like torrenting, gaming or 4K streaming. It's very fast but it only lasted me about 2 years before choking, I opened it and it was very dark around the CPU parts. Maybe run a cooling fan on the USB port to keep it from doing the same? I paid like $120 when I bought so $39 is worth it if you can get around the quirks and be realistic.

I just got the A7 for $70. Dang. Should have waited. This gets good reviews for the price too. I might get it anyway.

My V1 with OpenWRT has lasted me for over 6 years and does not slow down for even a bit. Led lights are all worn out but the unit is still working really well! I dont know if I'd need to buy one for a backup
Edit. It was the C9

Correct.

Archer C8 is unsupported - https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer-c8

Archer C7/A7 is supported - https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer_a7 and https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer-c7-1750

What WiFi routers handle a large number of connected devices at low bandwidth? I've got about 50 "internet of things" devices on my 2.4 GHz network, and I get the feeling my Asus AC1900 instability is due to the number of connections, since it used to be entirely stable when fewer devices were connected.
