Maxtor was one of the biggest drive manufacturers before they were bought by Seagate. Honestly it really was Maxtor VS WD back in the 90s. Seagate's QA started going down in the mid/late 2000s.

Any comments on the reputation for this drive? I'd like a tertiary backup for photos. Already using one of my systems plus a WD external, but I want redundancy for photos of my daughter.

I can go way back and say that I spent something like $250 on a 40 MEGAbyte drive for a desktop I built. I couldn't imagine filling that drive up at the time. https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...es/biggrin.gif
My friends father bought a ~$4,000 5 mb hard drive (as I recall) for his Apple ii+. We had to live with our floppy drives. This was around the time Bill Gates said "640K is more memory than anyone will ever need on a computer"... from the king of bloatware.

Every now and then I like to take these small windows of opportunity to remind myself and the community that I spent about $150 on a 1tb portable drive and $100 on a 320gb firewire 400 non portable drive. SD Cards are even worse. Thats all.
Don't feel bad. Back in the day I spent $300 for a 512mb (not GB) Maxtor Hard Drive. I still have it and it works. Just can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Get rid of it. You will be able to breathe easier trust me.
In the past I would hold on to computers, components etc. always for the what if factor.
What if never arrived. Got rid of excess stuff and now I look back and say to myself what was I thinking?
