Coverage is good on my M5, but it lacks a lot of features. Can't even set the channel for WiFi. Also have a few devices that continually set themselves back to "fast roaming" after disabling.

For a very basic setup it's probably ok, but any sort of functionality can be expected to be limited. I've had it since december and am ready to dump it already.
I just bought the M9 Plus 3-pack, and share your sentiment. It seems to work well enough, though now all my Ring cameras are showing "weak connection" all of a sudden. But these things have to have the worst feature-set of any mesh system, and maybe of any router or AP ever.

I'm likely returning it.

Does the Deco M4R base need to be plugged directly into router, or can it be plugged into any LAN outlet in the house? Reason I ask is because I have a very long ranch style 1 story home and my router is clear on one side of the house with a huuuuge brick fireplace dead center of the house (wifi nightmare for years). I would want this more centered in the middle of the house for max use? What about mesh and brick?.

hey guys, a couple of q's for those who have this / have set this up;

Goal: to set up my in-laws who are not tech savvy, have spotty/slow wifi with the spectrum router.

Problem 1: hardware - will this replace the spectrum router, that they are renting now at $5/mo? or is this in conjunction with?

Problem 2: maintenance - if the system does go down, is it relatively easy to get back up? (turn it off/on again)

Problem 3: initial set up - does it require going into cmd prompt, type in the IP, etc etc, or does it come with an exe file that walks you through it rather easily?
Q1: I'm a spectrum user as well and I'd say for your folks if the current router is working fine keep it. But I replaced it myself with Ubquiti system since I didn't want to pay $5 per month for them. You need to keep their modem (which is free) and instead of their WiFi router use this.

This can be controlled via the app from anywhere (if you enable it) so I'd say that'll help you to keep an eye on things.

Thanks bud, this makes sense. Spectrum gave them a modem/router combo, but if i remember correctly i can tell them to turn off the router capability. So this should work then... perfect.

Not good. Weak signal. This might be good if you live on a small 1 bdrm apartment.
No, I didn't say "in your mom's basement"

Your welcome! If its the combo, I think you can simply plug in this router through the LAN port and simply not use the hotspot through the Spectrum router. But in that case, it might be hard to save $5 per month if you don't return the equipment.

M9 is $199 at Costco right now(members only). I just bought and installed, love it so far! It's oos online but you might find some at our local Costcos. That's where I bought mine.

You call support and they will run a script that remotely reconfigures the modem and turns off the 2 wireless radios and changes the 4 port routing outputs into one output to supply internet to your external wireless router. Once they run the script it removes the $5 monthly charge.
