I never received it. Ended up getting frustrated and bought for full price a few years ago. I am over the fact that I paid full price now. Smilie
Thanks. Fair enough. I likely will too.

I would love to be able to use Plex. In my Freenas, Plex is a plugin. For the life of me, I have spent days and weeks trying to configure my Freenas Media so I can access my movies and the library always came up empty. Tried mount points destination and source about any possible combinations and it never worked. I know this is SD so please forgive my rant.
If it makes life easier, installing Plex as a first-class application on another machine (anything you have laying around, really) and mounting your FreeNAS share(s) would probably work.

Installing that way would likely be simpler to manage as well, though only you can prevent forest fires...err...only you know if you have what you need laying around to make that work.

For consistency, I'd, of course, recommend using Ethernet, at least between your FreeNAS and whatever machine (laptop, what have you) you choose to use for hosting Plex, to connect your Library to your media.

I've had it with Plex. Twice in very recent history, I've had issues with their auth servers being offline or unavailable.

I'll be that guy - Emby.

I'm currently running both side by side and within reason, Emby looks better when encoding for remote use and is more local media focused than all the extra TRASH that Plex is putting in.

Before you buy into the controls and constraints around Plex, look at Emby.

Well worth it, if you can get the offer (that is the biggest hurdle).

Still, there are some issues with Plex as they do not seem to be listening to their users for wanted upgrades or new features and instead seem to be so focused on things users do not want (i.e.: Tidal).

Where is the CarPlay integration?

Doesn't take many web searches to figure out some of the basics that people are wanting. I realize they need to make money to exist, but they will not exist without being cognizant and responsive to things their users want or something else will come along that will.

Second that. I moved to Emby when Plex started mandating online logins even if I was hosting everything within my network. The writing was on the wall at that point that Plex was moving toward this online content monetization direction which I wanted no part of.

Emby on the other hand works completely offline and imo works better than Plex and gives me more control over my setup. Your opinions and needs may differ, but Emby's the better solution for me.

Not sure if paying for Plus will benefit me. I use Plex for movies on my PC but have issues with movies not showing up fairly often. I have never been able to import music properly, let alone playlists. And Plex is completely unable to handle TV shows intelligently. Every episode it trys to import as a movie leading to tons of items identified improperly. I gave up on that too, just plug a hard drive with TV shows into an old Sony box hooked up to my TV.

Thanks for the tip, will be looking at Emby as well.

I have a basic plex subscription and have a bunch of 4K HDR content that I stream to my 4K apple tv, LG OLED TV, Xbox One X. None of the devices show the 4K in HDR, which i believe is a limitation on the plex (not sure if this is only for the basic version?)

Does anyone know if Emby or another service plays content in full 4K HDR? Also, if i turn on subtitles, the 4K downgrades to a 1080p stream...please advise..!

Plex is not the limit. Make sure you aren't transcoding your 4k content - click the gear icon, and select original quality.

edit: I may have been mistaken - Plex says that the Apple TV enhanced video player now supports HDR playback. This feature is currently available to Plex Pass subscribers, who can access it by going to Settings in the Plex app, then "Advanced." HDR support in Plex should offer sharper video playback alongside improved performance. Plex also says today's update improves support for subtitles on Apple TV.

More trash.

I use Nvidia Sheld's... no issues with HDR content from Plex or Emby. Doing a quick google search, it looks like the XBone seems to be the problem child.

It's a good deal but I don't mind paying month to month. As heavily as my family uses the service I can't really resent a couple bucks every month.

Yes, it's selected as original 4K and shows up when I play as well. But there's no HDR..

Just to warn anyone planning to use this as a DVR-- I switched to Plex after Windows Media Center's tv listings were coming to an end in January. I simply could not get any reception on a couple of the OTA channels that I could get flawlessly in WMC. I had been ready to buy the lifetime pass, but decided maybe I should test it first with one month, and lucky I did because it ended up not being able to receive important channels. I ended up undoing the Windows upgrade back to Win 7 and sticking with WMC while subscribing to a new TV lisitings provider.

Have you checked permissions of your plex user? That was preventing plex from viewing my media folder. This was on synology, but permissioning setup may be similar

Could just be your hdmi cables aren't capable of 4k.

I have no problem accessing my Freenas Media from my PC using Plex PC server. When I use the Freenas Plex sever on the Plex app web that the libraries come up empty. I can access Freenas Media from everywhere except Freenas Plex server. Don't know if the issue is clearly explained!!! Not sure about Plex permissions, do not see it in Freenas Plex.
