Gonna be the other guy in this Argument, and say why not Jellyfin? It's the license free version of Emby.
I use Plex myself, and love it, but do acknowledge that it has it's own quirks from time to time. I looked at Emby as an alternative then looked at Jellyfin. I actually run Plex and Jellyfin as separate docker containers on my unRAID NAS system and I am still tinkering with Jellyfin. As soon as they come up with a working Roku app I'm probably going to setup some separate library folders for stuff like family videos and other stuff for jellyfin. right now it's mirroring the same libraries that I have for Plex.
Really pulling for Jellyfin to mature and become more feature-rich, especially given what the Emby devs have been doing as of late. I originally started with Emby but their iOS app in particular was a sticking point for me. I considered Jellyfin but ultimately switched to Plex due to a third party app called Prism that allows you to use your Plex music through CarPlay. Plus the Plex iOS app is lightyears ahead of Emby's. I will freely admit I don't care for Plex's insistence on using their authentication servers.

Not sure if paying for Plus will benefit me. I use Plex for movies on my PC but have issues with movies not showing up fairly often. I have never been able to import music properly, let alone playlists. And Plex is completely unable to handle TV shows intelligently. Every episode it trys to import as a movie leading to tons of items identified improperly. I gave up on that too, just plug a hard drive with TV shows into an old Sony box hooked up to my TV.
What would benefit you is reading their documentation on these issues, including how to properly name/rename your files so they can be more accurately identified and the types of media files that Plex supports.

Yeah, I've been saying that too. But last I checked Jellyfin isn't even working on a Roku app and it's not on the roadmap at all. It requires specialized knowledge that their team doesn't have. So don't hold your breath.

Just to warn anyone planning to use this as a DVR-- I switched to Plex after Windows Media Center's tv listings were coming to an end in January. I simply could not get any reception on a couple of the OTA channels that I could get flawlessly in WMC. I had been ready to buy the lifetime pass, but decided maybe I should test it first with one month, and lucky I did because it ended up not being able to receive important channels. I ended up undoing the Windows upgrade back to Win 7 and sticking with WMC while subscribing to a new TV lisitings provider.
That doesn't sound like a software issue.

Would this replace Youtube TV?
Haha. If you have to ask the definitive answer is NO! Which channels are important to you on YouTube TV? Most is crap.

I have received hundreds of emails to get Plex Pass but I've never received one for this deal. Frown I've waited so long for a new deal to come out and it just doesn't work.

How are you going to use it when it's account specific?

folder structure is the key to having plex identify the content. https://support.plex.tv/articles/...how-files/

I use filebot to rename the files and set up the folder structures
/movies/title (year)/title (year).ext
/tv/tvname (year)/Season 1/tvname S01E01 - title.ext
/tv/tvname (year)/Season 2/tvname S02E15 - title.ext

Thanks for the info. Now the question is will I ever get around to organizing those files?

Confused

Those 3 channels work perfectly in WMC. They also work perfectly in my TV tuner's native video playback app (but the interface is terrible so I don't use that). But Plex claims there's no reception on those 3 channels at all (despite finding them during the initial channel scan). How does that not sound like a software issue to you?
