Why are you guys buying anti-bacterial soap for a virus. I get bacteria is all around us but it doesn't do much more against a virus than any other soap

Thank you! First time living in NYC all my life where I am actually concerned about this due to how highly contagious this virus is and lives on anything for a set amount of time.

To all SD'ers, please stay safe and let's flatten this curve all over. NYC probably the hardest hit state in the US and desperate shortage of ventilators from what I am reading with over 25k affected recorded from yesterday which i am sure it's higher today Sadwalk
This has been the most stressful experience I've ever had in NYC including 9/11 and the Northeast Blackouts because this has been going on for weeks and is only getting worse. While I am worried about catching Covid-19 myself since NYC residents are 10X more likely right now than the national average, I'm more concerned about all the hundreds or thousands of lives that may be lost in the coming weeks especially when much of it needs not to happen.

Most cases are from being coughed on. While washing your hands is nice and fine it will not prevent you from getting the virus. The only thing that will is if you actually stay at home, which no one is listening too.

Of course NYC is hit hardest with the most people using public transportation and being so crowded. If you live 50 miles from the next human you aren't going to get it.

And did no one own soap or toilet paper before this hit? Maybe people should have been listening weeks ago. I haven't left my house in 2.5 weeks besides going on a hike, or bike rides where obviously I won't come near anyone.

The FDA banned antibacterial soap years ago because it's not any different than any other soap. Soap is soap, wash your damn dirty hands.

it's obvious no one was prepared, no one has a crystal ball. that's not the yard stick to which they are measured. You obviously don't see the big picture. It's about who is ready to move at a moment's notice to redirect and in many cases create processes to work WITH what you have. Many companies just don't have that kind of flexibility and knowledge. Amazon is an example of a company that has adapted extremely quickly to the situation and is now capitalizing fully.
Oh...so THAT'S why I still CAN'T place an amazon fresh order for as far as they let us see...which is until the end of April right now.

Bought 7.5 oz handsoap for $0.98 @ Walmart B&M over the weekend, i think it's regular price there? And before anyone comments, free CoVid exposure braving the crowds is not worth it, although it was surprisingly not busy that time

Soap is hand sanitizer. If you are unable to wash your hands at a sink I can understand using hand sanitizer, but soap and water is preferable.
You do want to make sure it's a to bacterial. Not all hand soaps are...

that is laughable for a corporation of that size. they seem to be completely unprepared for anything other than "business as usual." they need new management running their ops department.
Many retailers have adopted just-in-time as a way to reduce inventory cost, so they only hold enough inventory for maybe 2-3 weeks.

Is this the anti-bacterial soap?
COVID-19 is a virus not a bacteria. So it doesn't matter. Any soap works just as well.

Wrong. Very, very wrong. Any soap will do as it breaks down the wall of the virus and kills it.

This is wrong and misleading. You don't have to make sure it's antibacterial. Soaps are antibacterial and antiviral. All soaps are and always has been since we first made soap 5000 years ago. The reason FDA banned the word antibacterial soap because it implied some soaps aren't while in fact all are. Soaps are even more antibacterial an antiviral than 60% alcohol hand sanitizers. But either ones you have please learn how to use it properly. Both soaps and alcohol requires scrubbing.

Rite Aid is my go-to pharmacy/ convenient store.
I get AIM toothpaste for $1 here.
I also take advantage of their gift card promos, i.e., buy $25 Burger King gift card, get $5 rewards. I then use the reward $, to get my essentials, like toilet paper, paper towels, etc..

Reward $ are loaded onto your membership card/ phone # (unlike CVS, which prints rewards out on receipt; that i might lose).
