Suggestion: Allow users to delete comments

3,002 610 March 30, 2020 at 07:30 AM
I have noticed a lot of comments that get made and either have to be edited down to nothing or the mods have to remove them. I know a lot of people get emotional and post stuff and then regret it and not having the ability to just wipe the comment clean from the board yourself would probably be creating unnecessary work for mods if someone reports it.

if we could delete our own comments maybe people would have the good sense to get rid of some of the trashy comments before admins have to get involved.

Hi,
Unfortunately, that would create some chaos in and of itself. They could start an argument then remove their own post making it look like the other was the aggressor. Or some might want to hide a deal they posted and want to delete their own OP.

For now, please just mod alert posts that you think need to be removed, thanks. Smilie

Fair enough about deleting the whole post. I guess since the boards are flat it's hard to tell that the person they are responding to deleted theirs.

Edit: I agree that this is something that may change the structural code of their forums, or break things. I can understand if they are using forums with flat limitations and stuff like merging could be broken by this.

Many posters just edit their post to say "Deleted" or equivalent. That's enough for me.

I just posted something I wish I wouldn't have. Just now! So I could have deleted it immediately. I disagree with you about this!
