Just got an email from Tello [tello.com] -

These days surfing the internet and calling are as common as our daily meals. To make things easier for you and your friends, we've doubled the DATA and the TALK on all Tello plans to keep connected despite the degrees of separation.
So, whether you're already using a Tello combo or plan to get yourself one, be ready for...
100% MORE at NO extra cost
Also, if you already have some balance in your account it will double, whether it's data or minutes.

Tello is an MVNO that uses SPRINT for their coverage. There is NO roaming. If you have good local Sprint coverage, Tello is a good option. If you don't have good Sprint coverage or don't like Sprint, don't sign up for Tello.
Tello is free to join and has monthly plans. You will need a Sprint compatible phone and a Sprint sim. Sprint has different sim models for different phones. You need to make sure you get the correct Sprint sim. You should use the Tello BYOD checker [tello.com] to see if your phone will work on Tello, and if you tell it you don't has a Sprint sim, it will tell you the correct model Sprint sim to get:
Double data and voice minutes is free and will happen until May 29.
Existing customers will have their current data balance doubled, and will then get double data for their April and May renewals as well.
New customers will get their initial month doubled, and will then get their May renewal doubled also.
There is a good review of Tello service here [cranialborborygmus.com]:
https://www.cranialborborygmus.co...review.htm
The review explains how to get free data roll over, among other things.

I have wondered if cell companies are doing this because it does not really cost them anything since the majority of us will not be using the data?

I do not want to be cynical since many companies are doing great things right now, but it just got me thinking that these cell companies are rolling these out now because it does not really cost them anything if no one is using the data.

I am struggling with an analogy/metaphor here... like if I have a bicycle and my neighbor has no legs and I tell him he can use my bike anytime he wants?? I think my quarantined brain is fried because that is the best analogy I can come up with Smilie

I just got this email as well. One nice thing about this , and I have not tested it out yet... but I believe MMS only works when you have data, however, I have not ran out to test this.

I checked my balance and I now have 2gb vs my 1gb plan. Thank you Tello!

It's a nice gesture by these companies - granted the vast majority of us are stuck at home with wifi, but they didn't have to do it and I'm assuming first responders, etc will get good use of the extra flexibility.

I was thinking about adding a line on Tello until I looked at their coverage..pathetic. Appears to be the same as Boost and they pretty much are missing in N. California, especially along the coast. Add in slow data (from what I read) and it's a big pass. As usual, if you have coverage in your home area and never venture out, it may work for you.

I had the BYOD free for a year w/ sprint and when it ended i settled on tello. I am lucky and have had great coverage with sprint. Tello, from what i understand, uses sprint towers, albeit missing some of the roaming deals.

So far, coverage has been similar with maybe a few more dead spots. But for $10 a month, w free unlimited slow data, this is exactly what i needed. This is definitely a YMMV as to whether or not this will work for you, but they are cheap enough and easy enough to switch from sprint where it might be worth to check out for a month or so.

Tello uses the Sprint network. It's a great deal if you're in an area that's covered, but it's worthless if not.
$6 for 1GB (now 2GB) of data, I haven't seen anything cheaper.

To clarify, the $6 price point is with no talk included. Unlimited Talk/text adds $4 a month, unless you found a hidden plan?

Curious about this as well, their verbiage doesn't really make it clear one way or the other.

My 500MB data only line for my iPad (haven't used any this month) is already showing 1GB which is nice. I'm fortunate enough to be at home w/ WiFi but I know there's a lot of folks out there who still need talk/text/data.

Got the same mail but I see no change on my account - I consumed all 500MB from my plan last week (Tello? where have you been last week?) and I'm still grounded to 2G speed.
