I used this once and I don't realize my whole yard was a weed.... my front yard turn brown. The following spring it was pretty nice yard
I use this every year on my lawn. It seems to help the grass get the advantage over the clover and weeds. It's not a magic bullet for me either but I do think it helps.

Edit: "this" being the hose attached broad leaf killer

Edit 2: i also use their hose attached bug killer on my yard a couple times a year. This helps to control mosquitoes as they live under the grass during the day but also helps with fleas, ticks and general nuisance bugs like mayflys. I would rate it's effectiveness as a 4/10 but I'll take whatever advantage I can get.

As an aside. Received the Dynatrap XL as a gift a couple years ago. Thought it was a total scam. If you have a mosquito problem you need one of these things. Turned it on and let it ran for a week when I first got it. It had thousands of mosquitos in the trap. Literal inches thick in the basin. The basin on mine is larger than a big dinner plate so it was thousands of bugs. Highly recommend: https://dynatrap.com/store/dt2000...sect-trap/
The active ingredient in this is a selective herbicide so it should target just weeds. It is widely used and "should" work. This product is basically just one brands version of the same concept you can find widely available. I'ts common because it does work.

I recently did a ton of research on this kind of stuff. I wanted to kill basically any vegetation that came into contact with my spray so I went with a strong non selective herbicide.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ARKS3XO/

Would recommend this for anyone looking for something that kills plants instead of just weeds.

-----------

The pesticide is a fairly high concentration of the active ingredient but not the highest recommended for extreme infestations. .03% concentration is the highest recommendation I found online and this solution is .025%.

A warning for this particular active ingredient states that it is extremely toxic to aquatic life and general wildlife.

I just burn my weeds. They never come back. And with my grass... I just the grass grow tall enough so the weeds don't get sunlight. And they die.

I bought the spray bottle, the tall clovers and the crabgrass in my lawn started wilting/shriveled up within a few hours after application. The weed with the little white "flowers" at the end seemed invincible against the treatment.

I might try a weed and feed a little later in the spring - I am in the south where temps have gotten nearly 90 degrees and then dropped to where the weekly hi was low 60s and night temps in hi 30s. This weather is crazy.

I was told by the guys who do my lawn to wait until near may before I do any fertilizers. I might just stick with cutting the grass to make my weed problem not look as bad, hopefully itll keep the HOA off my arse...

In my opinion, these weed killers from Spectracide don't work at all, even their concentrate. A couple of years back, I had bought a bunch of concentrate bottles of these and religiously was spraying my yard hoping for some weed control. If you spray on weeds, the poison does shrivel the weed surfaces, but doesn't kill them for good.

So, at the end of Summer, I eventually lost all hopes and mixed all the weed killer from all the bottles together and added water to create a huge massive batch of weed killer. Used that to spray over the weeds and it worked like a charm. The weeds just shrank and died within 3-4 days of application. But, next year new weeds did grow back.

This stuff does work, but there are always dormant seeds, and seeds blown in from surrounding grounds. This product only kills the already-growing plants, not a pre-emergent. It worked flawlessly at our last house to get the grass thick and lush in the spring without any patches from weeds. I had a thick 100% grass lawn on clay soil in Washington State.

Now in our new place I rarely use this - I'm trying to keep clover alongside grass in its 15k sqft of open sandy soil; occasional spot spray if I don't pull the weeds physically. For areas in shade, a lot of small things grow throughout the winter instead of grass, so the spectracide is my go-to in those spots, rather than laying there pulling patches of mini plants all weekend. Seed it up a bit more beyond the autumn seeding and the grass grows in well through the rest of the season, even under the dozens of oak trees. Hopefully the clover continues to spread and gets to the remaining shady areas. Haven' t put any clover seed down yet, but seems like it may be worth the extra money to speed things up!

Depends on the weed and how well/accurately you apply the treatment. I use Spectracide Weed Stop For Lawns 40-fl oz Concentrated Lawn Weed Killer with good success. (Florida with Bermuda lawn)

Understand these are just a cocktail blend of listed herbicides and wont kill every weed with one application. I have several weeds that aren't in the 400+ listed and require different herbicides to control. Follow the label and you should be okay. I did an application in late December and plan to do it again this month before temperature hit 90 (may burn grass >90).

Many don't apply herbicides correctly. Too much or too little is a waste of time and will not work. I've done it myself, backyard is weed free while front still has patches ... user error.

Sounds like you guys need to grow a decent lawn to shade out the weeds. Then also apply a pre emergent early spring to prevent them from growing. Crab grass is one of those where they will keep coming back year after year. This isnt a miracle fix. Your lawn needs better soil conditions for grass. If weeds continuously grow and your entire yard turns brown after spraying this likely you have very little grass and need to start working on it asap. This stuff works well, add some baby shampoo so it sticks to weeds a little better.

Overseed in spring/fall and apply pre emergents when temps hit 55/70. Obviously fertilize if you havent done so in years. And let the lawn recover for a season. Watch next seasons grass growth.

Lawn care isnt hard. Its weekly maintenance like everything else.

Can the "Spectracide Weed Stop For Lawns 32-fl oz Crabgrass Control" be used as a per-emergent? If not, what's a good pre-emergent? I am in Maryland. Has the time passed to apply pre-emergent?
Sorry for the newbie questions.
