You must be under 30. The batteries on these things last forever. Well, to be precise, they will last exactly as long as your kid wants to play with it.
They were using sarcasm that sailed over your head. Tonka trucks are KID powered.

9.6 volt maybe 12 volt definitely buy - cant find voltage anywhere and if it doesn't have a battery pack - you'll end up spending hundreds on double a's - anybody know what batteries it takes?

Tonka trucks don't generally take batteries.

you must be misinterpreting the question - what's the voltage? and what batteries?

Why do you think it takes batteries? The description doesn't say anything about any powered functions. It doesn't look like it has any either. It's just a regular steel truck you can push around. You wind the winch by hand.

I can't tell if you are joking or just didn't read the description...Look at the amazon listing:

This truck is cool but the hook on the front just hangs and drags on the ground. It doesn't sit up like they show in the picture.

The much larger mighty dump truck is much nicer. I got this one for $25 back for Christmas 2018.

Both trucks are fun for my son to play with. He loves to load dirt in them and dump it. I don't see them breaking for any reason. They're well built.

Edit: it looks like the toughest mighty dump truck I paid $25 for is no longer available. It is much nicer than the one mentioned in the post above mine and it's huge.

I think it probably has to do with $35 price tag for a child's truck. I can get why one would assume it was remote controlled or something.

These are very tough/cool/fun, but I'd consider overpriced.

Lol at barteries last forever

It's not a plastic piece of junk like most toys today. So no not overpriced. We aren't in the 1950's anymore
